Yes, Coir is to fine for anything other than seedlings. You need a soil mix that will retain moisture, but drain very freely.

Where you are in Maui, you can use different soil than someone with cold winters.

Jericson's (from Oahu) mix is has proved great for him. He does have it listed somewhere within the threads here. If you go to a thread that Jericson Pastor started and send him a message "click" on his name and it will take you to his page, then send a message. Very helpful and friendly.

We visited a marvelous place just outside of Lahaina when there, "Maui Mist Gardens". The owners who are so nice and knowledgeable showed us around and they used to grow Adeniums. Still have quite a few and some exceptionally large ones.
