I have a few bulbs striatum of seeds, they are large enough to bloom. But so far not done so. I read a review that their bulbs must be planted deeply for bloom. Who thinks about this?

Hi Elena , my bulbs aren't planted deeply , they are half emerging from substrat , and they bloom twice a year.

That's the good thing about this species, they'll bloom from very small bulbs. I have a very nice dwarf form that offsets like crazy and blooms in the winter on relatively short 20cm stems. Last year I either forgot or just got lazy and didn't cross it with any thing, but this year I'll put it on my to do list. So stay tuned :-)))

maybe it is 'Petiolatum' ? it usuallys doesn't self seed and reproduces itself by small bulbs, produced in big quantities. And it is the smallest of all striatums strains.

It could be, since there is so much confusion between striatum, petiolatum and puniceum and it doesn't help that they all look so much alike either. I have all three and for the life of me, the flowers are almost identical.

Hi Fred , petiolatum is a strain of Hippeastrum striatum : Hippeastrum striatum var. petiolatum , for puniceum , I don't this species , if it is a synonym or not.

It's so very confusing. In some literature, it almost gives the impression that they're distinct species and in others, they look like variants of the same species. All I know is that they're very pretty and they all look similar and yours certainly are beautiful :-)))
