Thank you! Yes, she has lovely variegated leaves. However, this was her maiden flowering, and the leaves didn't begin to emerge until after the flowers faded. Perhaps, in future years, leaves and flowers will be produced simultaneously.

Very pretty! The first 2 flowers of my Orange Varie are starting to open already. First one had 2 deformed petals but the other one is ok. Color is NOT orange really and is similar to Ballerina's (Got 4 bulbs of this blooming and I'm lovin it!). Thanks for posting pics of your Orange Varie Blanca!

Fred...Yes Orange Varie is variegated just like Autumn Pink Lady. Mine is in leaf right now with 2 attached babies! I got this from Komoriya like 2 years ago and this is the first time it bloomed for me.

Really gorgeous Blanca!! So far all I've got is 2 gorgeous leaves and I burned them under the lights! They grew way up under the light and I didn't notice that they were actually touching the bulbs, ouch!! I look every day for a bud but nothing yet.

Me too :-))))) I'm such a sucker for the variegated leaf types!!!!!! Donna was very kind to help me with some Santos pollen last year and I'll try to make a few crosses with it this year. If I'm fortunate and the Hippeastrum Faeries approve of me playing bee, I will be more than happy to share with the wonderful folks on this list.

Well my Orange Varie is not as pretty as yours Blanca as I transplanted it in Donna's "clear plastic cup method" last spring and grew it outside from spring till fall. No special TLC given. It loved it though and rooted, grew leaves and babies and now bloomed for me. Will repot this in a next size bigger cup and give it some TLC and hope for prettier flowers next time. It seems to like that small cup though.

Very nice Maria! I see that you have a burned leaf too, from the sun or too much light. That is what my two leaves look like. But aren't those leaves gorgeous, really dark green to show off that stripe!!! I found Autumn Pink Lady has a paler green leaf so the stripe isn't as prominent. I have two disappointing small Autumn Rose Ladies I just bought but they have rooted and sent up dark green leaves with their stripe so I think that I got the correct bulbs this time!

You'll have to start ordering Dunkin'Donuts large size coffee!!☺☺☺ It is fun to watch the roots grow isn't it.. although it doesn't make for a nice presentation when the bulb is blooming. Then, I just stick it in a heavy terra cotta pot which also helps it from toppling over as my Thai Thai just did!! Just broke off one petal though so it still looks OK!

That leaf burn was from last summer outside. I did not cut it and just let it be. I do not grow my Hippies under lights so winter growing them is really a pain as I try to find them a spot with sunlight around here. Unlike the clivias which are happy in the unheated garages right now. Sometimes the actively growing Hippies go to my bedroom, then moved in the pc room or moved outside for a day under the sun if the temperatures are ok. And yes there's that toppling problem but I don't care about "presentation" anymore as long as they are blooming for me. Ha! By the way, here in my growing conditions, the reticulatum hybrids are still awake and leafing out. My plants really liked that fertilizer Donna.

I'm sure that we will see more variegated hybrids in the future. I saw this Sonatini at Keukenhof this year so there is hope for all of us who missed Orange Varie, Santos and Co. Thanks to Donna I have three little seedlings with variegated leaves growing (Eyecatcher x Santos) and it makes me always happy to see the stripes :-)

I'm using clear orchid pots for the bulbs and they seem to like it. They can show their roots and I can watch them grow...

And Donna, I know the burned leave tip problem. I have my seedlings under lights and they grow towards it and come too close sometimes.
