its a snake plant. thats alli know...

i was gifted this plant 6.5 years ago for my first monthers day by my brother and his wife. i repotted it once or twice and it's thriving despite my black thumb. however it needs help. not sure if i should pot it in a big pot to live on floor or split it into 2 plants. also 1 shoot is sprouting out really tall and has fallen over. any tips articles etc? i dont even know what to look up to try and google it.

Good advise. Spring is best time due to warmer weather. Use proper soil for fast draining and yes re-pot it into several pots. I use tomato cages to support my taller sans or just a few well placed wooden rods or even some twine. Your plant is called Sansevieria trifasciata Futura 'Compacta'. Google that title and it should show pictures and a wealth of information. If you don't find it too boring, try reading all our post here.
