Tecnogas Range versus Monogram

We're renovating our home and selecting appliances. We're torn between the 36" Tecnogas and the GE Monogram gas ranges.

We love the look of both, but there is something really cool about the Tecnogas. The specs are similar. Monogram seems to get great reviews (most are about the looks) and it is self-cleaning and has an infrared broiler.

Tecnogas is new to the US. It looks great and has an enormous 6.7 cubic foot oven - the biggest from what I've seen, but we can't find reviews of it anywhere and it doesn't have an infra red broiler.

Does anyone out there with a Tecnogas or Monogram range have any feedback?

Thanks!

I would be concerned about service if you ever needed it. Does the Tecnogas have service where you live?

Yes, the store we will purchase from will provide service.

I have seen the 36" Tecnogas Panorama model at two of my local appliance dealers and it is striking. The oven seems downright cavernous compared to other 36" gas ranges. If you haven't yet be sure to search for Tecnogas on youtube; there's a video showing how you can take apart the glass door for cleaning.

One thing I did notice is that the oven burner is only rated at 16,000 BTUs. Most of the 36" pro-style ranges have oven burners that run around 30,000 BTUs (even the 13-year old DCS I'm replacing has a 30K oven burner). Between the enormous oven and the low-power burner I'm assuming it will take a long time to pre-heat. The broiler seems similarly under-powered compared to the competition.

Tecnogas is one of the few companies that publishes the low-end BTUs for the simmer burner, 750. My DCS simmers at 500 (according to the manual) and that's just about right for rice or oatmeal. 750 might run a little hot but you can always tame it with a simmer plate. I doubt Monogram even specifies their simmer BTUs so there's probably no good way to compare.

I'm looking to purchase the technogas 36" too. I haven't been able to find reviews - I did find two great service centers near me that are trained to service them - they also service the Wolf, Viking, and others. I was wondering how'd adjust to an oven that I'd have to get used to setting using warm, mod, hot and very hot settings. And, if the oven burner only has 16,0000 BTUs, is that such a bad thing? Anyway, hoping HOUZZ or others can provide more information.

I saw the tecnogas recently...There are numbers in the oven dial, so you set it normally...The "warm/mod/hot" is a temperature gauge. So you'll need an oven thermometer, but i think that's the case with many pro style ranges

I mentioned the oven burner because it's an easy stat to overlook; so many ranges are in the 30,000 BTU range that I stopped paying attention to that number when scanning spec sheets. It is hard to imagine using the equivalent of a single stovetop burner to heat up that large oven but for all I know it's perfectly adequate. (For that matter it's hard to imagine how one would even construct an oven burner with lower output than a cooktop burner; they're basically just big tubes that shoot flames out either side.)

In any case I would be more concerned about the low-end broiler design and the oven fan which may be whisper-quiet or unpleasantly loud. Without a hands-on review from an owner there's no good way to find this sort of information.

Just a few things I can think of.

I would be a little worried about 16K BTUs in the oven too. Not only will it preheat slowly but recovery after opening the door might take a long time too.

Is the amount of cubic feet in the oven usable space? What is the size of the rack? The monogram and others will hold a full baking sheet or maybe you might use two half sheets. Also look at rack spacing and head space.

The monogram has an infrared gas broiler. Smaller but very hot.

You can email and ask about the low end if the BTU ratings. Sometimes they will give it to you even though they don't publish it. I think my Wolf bigger burners have a simmer of 900 BTUs and it simmers very well. By that I mean I can leave a Le Creuset pan full of mashed potatoes on it for an hour and it will only have a faint brown tint where it was over the burner. I can put a thin disposable aluminum catering tray full I've pasta over two burners without scorching. The simmer burner on the stacked burners is wide so that helps.

The monogram has a burner designed to be turned over and used with a wok.

I really like the price for the Technogas vs Wolf vs Viking vs GE Monogram; It's in my price point. I like to cook; I've been using an old 42" electric stove from the 70's - I figure going from my current stove to a professional gas stove will be a huge difference to me. Especially, within the oven - even though the BTUs of 16,000 for the oven is not great. Do you think that would be a worrisome problem for a cook like me who cooks daily meals for just two people and entertains big twice a year? I wish I could find someone who has the Technogas in the US, so they can tell me how it performs.

Weatherproof, Have you looked at any of the BlueStar ranges?

Wekick, Yes! And I do I like BlueStar, but the 36" range is outside my price point.

They make the RCS that is a star shaped, uncapped burner with an open burner tray and a sealed burner that is ring shaped and capped, both about $4000.

BS also makes this for Big Chill. It is pretty close to their "sealed burner" range but less expensive.

Did anyone here get a Technogas range? We are currently in the market but are still worried about the large oven and 16,000 BTU. My husband just loves the look of the Technogas but I am leaning towards BlueStar RCS.

I purchased the Technogas range. I'm having it installed today. I purchased it not only for the look, but because of the large oven. Going from an electric oven with a small oven to gas with a big oven is my dream. I'll be able to cook bigger turkeys for Thanksgiving. As far as the 16,000 oven BTU, I think that is the usual for home ovens like this one; Heats up fast and keeps a consistent temp - I like that. Also, this oven is convection, too. What are your concerns regarding the 16,000 oven BTU?

Most 36 inch ranges in this semi-professional style have 30,000 BTU and their ovens are smaller than the Tecnogas . I was very worried it would take ages to pre-heat such a large oven, (which like you is a big perk for this range) with almost half the BTU of other ranges. I do use my oven often to cook whole meal roasting meats and veggies so I would love having the extra capacity, but I also open the door several times to add dished that do not need as much time to cook. It worries me that the oven temperature would not recover after opening the door. It could be totally fine and I am over worried, but without a single review I just did not want to risk it.

I would be very interested for your feed back on how you like after using it for a bit. Yours would be the ONLY review on the internet and I am it sure much appreciated by many.

I've used my new Technogas Range for a little over a week ---- I LOVE IT! The oven heats up fast for me, and it keeps the temp well, even after opening. I tried cooking with the convection fan - I can tell the difference whether convection on or off - the cook experience is great. Re: the burners - I experimented with cooking bacon - the heat intensity varies depending on the type of pan you use. I fried in a non-stick pan - which cooked well; however when I cooked bacon with a cast iron skillet the cooking experience was fantastic. The bacon cooked evenly, quickly. I definitely noticed the difference. Cleaning the stove top after cooking is a bugger as the stainless steel shows everything and fingerprints. I can't find a thing I really don't like about the Technogas range. At some point I will try baking some treats. I feel I made a great choice.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the range! I am so glad you updated us and to hear how well it is working for you.

Weatherproof, thank you for the helpful review. Is your new range dual fuel or all gas?

We've had our Technogas 36" range for just over a year--all gas. Like the other posters, we bought it for the enormous oven, but we took a risk, as they are new to the US market. For us, it came down to this one and a Bertazonni. We have some friends in Italy who were able to assure us of Technogas's reputation, and our local supplier is well-established and services everything they sell. As added insurance, we also took out the extended warranty from our supplier.

All that said, we are thrilled with our choice. The giant oven is fantastic for the kids to watch their baking projects, the range is fairly easy to clean (the window panes have a mechanism that allows you to remove them), and it performs consistently. The oven can take a little longer to heat up, but it's never been an issue for us. You'll also need an oven thermometer, as the one on the panel is not precise--warm, hot, etc.

This is fantastic feedback on our ranges, thank you so much! If you love our products, please leave us a review on our page!

I am having some problems with this stove--although less then a year old it has been serviced several times--the other problems were resolved but the new issue is that the broiler refuses to stay on--already a technician fixed it in May. I have not used the broiler again since May until yesterday 9/13/2018. Guess what?Back to the same problem--broiler not working again -it lights and then shuts off after about a few minutes! Love the look of of the stove and large capacity oven but never had this much problem with my Viking or GE profile...

I can't be sure, but I have a feeling the glowing review above by Linc0231 is spam. It is that poster's sole post, either before or in the year since, just for the purpose apparently to say the reassuring things people unfamiliar with the brand want to hear. And followed by the manufacturer's post perhaps to bump it up after 6 months. I also find Troyandrachel's earlier post odd - again the one and only post, uses almost the exact phrasing about the good local supplier as Linc0231 does, and says s/he likes that the oven fan is loud - a Houzz first.

My initial experience with Technogas hasn't been good. I purchased a 36" gas range in November 2017, because of assorted problems and setbacks typical of a major remodel, we didn't actually install the range till August, upon hooking up the gas, experienced a large leak, turns out a seal in the gas line was never installed. Called their customer care dept. and after arguing with the rep, he insisted there should be no seal and I replied I was looking at the parts schematic and indeed there is supposed to be a seal he told me ok, they would ship one right out. Ten day later I got a phone call saying because it had been so long since the time I bought it and installed it I would have to pay for the part and shipping, I reluctantly agreed, a 83 cent part needed had to be shipped FEDEX ground for $16, they waited another 2 days to ship it then 5 days in transit. I am sorry but this is no way t treat your customers.

We have had our 48" Tecnogas Range installed and in use for a little over a month now. So far we love it!! We put it to the ultimate test for Thanksgiving when we made a 24 lb turkey, ham, mac n cheese, desserts and much more. Everything was done and ready as planned!

I have not noticed the large or small ovens taking longer than usual to pre- heat or cook/bake - even when I open the door a few times while in use

We bought this range because of the beautiful and unique look. We got the matte black with bronze accent. It adds a beautiful focal point in our all white kitchen.

Very satisfied with the style and cooking quality this range provides. It fits perfect in the newly renovated kitchen the hubby and I did

Due to Tecnogas being new to the U.S. the supplier we purchased it from was offering the hood for free - BONUS!!! The price of range was great compared to a lot of the other professional sized ranges we had seen. We paid in the mid $9k range for a hood and range! Delivery was faster than expected!

One more thing, the "Bronze" I would say look more like a distressed Antique Brass. All the kitchen accents I used - handles, pot filler and pendants are in antique brass and they look beautiful and complement the range and hood very nicely!

Toe kicks still to be installed :)

No problems with the oven heating quickly. It is beautiful and has a much more solid feel than other ranges. Just touch the knobs on a Viking and then the knobs on this one and you will notice that the Superiore is Superiore to the others.

Lots of comments about the oven heating quickly or not. It might be helpful to time how long it takes to heat to 350°F, measured by an independent thermometer. Some ovens beep when they get to 50° below the set temperature.

I want to update my comments regarding the stove--everything has been fixed and it is now performing well

@carolyn Pitchford, what was wrong. My oven has been shutting off - not the broiler. Service came out to fix it, but could not get it to repeat. Then a week later it happened again. Just curious to find out what they discovered with your issue. Thanks.

I just kept on bothering service to come and fix it --I also contacted Technogas in Italy wrote them directly through email to extend the warranty by 2 years because I was worried that it would continue to happen---I have not have any trouble since then

I own a Technogas 36 inch range. It’s a joy to cook on every day. Excellent pricing, excellent customer service if you have a problem. I highly recommend this stove. I’d buy another.

We purchased a Tecnogas 2 years ago. The oven takes a long time to heat and doesn't reach above 375 degrees. We've tried to solve the problem dealing with their customer service, which is horrible. The rep said they were a new firm handling Tecnogas Superiore and thus didn't have the record of our registered warranty. Then our repairman discovered that the reason for the heating problem was the flame height was low. After the repairman was on the phone with On Point Warranty, the new Tecnogas customer service, for hours and charges for us, On Point wasn't helpful getting us the part we needed to fix the issue. Save yourself a headache and avoid this company.

Mine takes 30 minutes to heat to 400. Which I dont think is awesome. The ignition is not smooth on the gas and the no self cleaning is ridiculous at this price point. The oven is huge and it looks beautiful. But not as functional as I’d like.
