Vegetables going bad sooner in new Samsung refrigerator

Is anyone else having this experience? We just renovated our kitchen and traded our 18 year old Maytag standard depth fridge (35") for a new Samsung side by side counter depth model. We love it, but are finding that vegetables and especially greens are going bad much faster than they used to in our old fridge. Where greens or fresh herbs used to last up to a week, they are spoiling in a couple of days. We aren't treating them any differently...still storing them in the appropriate drawers. Can't figure out why this would happen. Any ideas? Is this happening to anyone else?

I actually logged on to see if anyone else had this problem. I bought a brand-new Samsung side-by-side in the black stainless steel a few months ago and vegetables are going bad within 1 to 2 days. I just went to the farmers market yesterday-you can't get any fresher everything is already wilted! even in the crisper drawers which there's no setting to adjust anyway. I called Samsung- they set out a repair company tested the temperature, which is fine, said there's nothing they could do. I called Samsubg again and are sending out the same company for a second opinion. Make sure you call Samsung to complain so they get enough complaints to do something about it they seemed like they had never heard of this issue.

My Samsung counterdepth is a French door version and the thing I noticed immediately when we got it was how well it kept fruit veggies and deli items fresh. Much longer than my previous fridge.

My fridge is now 5 years old and still "chilling". Maybe something has changed with the newer models but you would think that all Samsung models would provide the same kind of cooling to keep food at its freshest.

Called Samsung. Completely unhelpful. They said "If it seems to be cooling as it is supposed to, there is nothing we can do."

Do you have a refrigerator thermometer? Do you know what temperature it's at, if it's holding steady, and if it's the same temperature throughout? All of these factors can affect how fresh your food is. Also, did you clean down all the surfaces before you put in food? I don't know if there would be anything on them that might affect the food, but I can imagine it's possible, especially if it were some kind of fumigant for shipping or after shipping.

NO refrigerator on the planet should have your greens wilting within a couple of days. Even BAD refrigerators don't do that.

Did you try turning down the temperature just a little?

Will try what you suggest. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm too lazy now to check on the low vs high humidity for veggies and perhaps greens vs meats, but I assume your drawers can be set for meats vs veggies. Perhaps you have then set wrong or perhaps there is a packing piece blocking the appropriate flow to the correct drawer.

I was advised to turn it down to 34 when I called Samsung customer service but when the tech came out he turned it back up to 38 and said that's the recommended temperature. the temperature is fine. I believe it's something to do with the humidity or moisture levels taking water out of the vegetables. there's no settings that you can adjust only the temperature. I bought it from Lowe's so I'll call them tomorrow to talk to the sales person and see what they suggest.

I did wash it completely down with soap but interesting thought about some fumigant on it. It had the most horrendous smell when I bought it I put literally like 10 boxes of baking soda in there to absorb odors which didn't help but once I ran it for a couple of days the odor did go away. Will check into that.

Have tried all combinations of drawers and humidity levels. None of those make a difference. Debwin1, it sounds like your wilting could be related to low humidity, while my spoiling/rotting sounds like too much humidity. Maybe these Smsung fridges have humidity control problems. So frustrating to have this coming from an expensive new refrigerator.

My fridge's normal setting caused immediate wilt. I moved it up to 40 no more problems.

In refrigerator freezers with one refrigeration loop, aggressive removal of humidity from the freezer side to minimize frost can dehydrate the refrigeration side. Dual loop systems such as SZ builds, shouldn't have that problem. (Mine doesn't, anyway.)

It may prove necessary for the the OP to pack veggies in plastic bags with damp (not wet) paper towels. Some air leakage from the bag end may be needed to tailor the dehumidification rate. The goal would be to slow down the dehumidification of the veggies without inducing rot. Some experimentation may be needed.

So if Kas's surmise is correct, there are "veggie" bags with little holes in them.

You can also increase the humidity by putting an open jar with a damp sponge in it in the fridge. If the evaporator is making it too dry, that should help equalize it. If the sponge stays really damp, that's probably not the problem.

Great suggestions thank you so much. Samsung is sending another tech for 2nd opinion. I talked to the manager and he said if they can't figure it out we're going to figure out next steps with them. so at least they're working with me on it. I thought about the plastic bags for veggies but they're very expensive and seems crazy that I would have to do anything with a brand-new unit...I turned it up to 40 as practigal mentioned. Will see if that changes anything. Sallynh--which fridge do You have? call back and ask to talk to a manager you might have to demand it as several times as I did but finally got through to one. Lowes can't do anything because it's past 30 days but they said to get as much documentation as I can on tech visits from Sampson and then to call Lowes customer care team and try to switch it for another model if we can't figure it out.

I take back the temperature thought cheese I bought a few days ago is already bad. incidentally I've had issues with the other appliances I bought with this. I got it because I love the range which was Consumer Reports number one and I like the black stainless steel so I got the rest of the units to match that. I've had trouble with the dishwasher leaving tons of suds on the bottom after a cycle and the microwave buttons are extremely hard to push. I have to push very hard and sometimes a few times to get it to take. tech also said that that's normal! my mom who has arthritis can't even push the buttons.

Thank you for all these suggestions! Lots of things to try. Really appreciate all the suggestions. Debwin1, mine is a RF23J9011SR/AA. It is one of the 4 door Flex units where the bottom right compartment can be either a freezer or a refrigerator. Which one do you have? I will take your advice and ask for a manager. The support rep I spoke with was clearly an overseas outsourced rep. Was yours?

I have the French door style # RS25H5111SG/AA. Both times I got the rep from US but that didn't matter as they kept screwing up the set up for the techs. I put in a very wet paper towel in a glass bowl in the crisper drawer and it was bone dry within a few days. I had the second visit for the tech yesterday and he did much more than the first guy and actually took off the panel in the fridge and found the fan running slow and not properly, did an adjustment then it seemed to be running better but not as it should. There was a 15 degree difference between the top and bottom of unit too. I saved all my dead veggies that were all shriveled up to show him and that helped with his investigating. So he ordered me a new evaporator fan and said that will help with the humidity levels as since the warm air wasn't circulating properly the sensor didn't get the message to kick in...I'm going to call Samsung and request a gift card/reimbursement of all the food that has gone bad while waiting for their techs to figure this out...

I am having this problem with my Samsung fridge as well. Would appreciate any advice

I am having the same exact issues with produce and cheeE and also frost in the freezer and I think it's related to the outlet which you are plugging the refrigerator in to as well as the floor under it (at least in my case) because I literally bought a brand new fridge to replace the rotting produce issue and a couple months later the same problem arises. I live in a prewar building and tbe electricity is defntly not up to code and the only place I can even plug the fridge into is actually a switch loop which is just the back of the light switch fixture which I'm sure is causing all sorts of electric problems.

Same problem here. It appears that not all Samsung refrigerator models have properly-designed crisper drawer. I measured humidity in the drawers of my brand-new side-by-side Samsung refrigerator and it showed only 66% which is quite low (should be around 90% or more to keep produce fresh). Going to experiment with wet towels, but at this point looks like huge design flaw.

I have same issue with my Samsung 2019 French door. Berries start to mold after 2 days. Parsley wilts in 2 days. The unit is advertised as top of their line, but crisper drawers have no humidity controls. I was foolish enough to think Samsung had discovered some 'magic' solution and didn't need controls.

Brand new samsung fridge and all my veggies go bad right away i have it set to wgat it caks for and my foid freezes up wirst fridge scer bought wirst part is i read reviews while buying but no fridge was in stock but samung

I'm having the same problem. Veggies molded in less than a week. The fridge came with the house I purchased. I use to have GE. No problems at all kept food for a month. So this is crazy. There is tons of condensation in the doors which I've never experienced in a fridge. I'm reading up on how to fix that but it's like why should I need to do this with a brand new fridge smh. My temp is at 34.

Thanks for all who posted on the thread. It would be useful if you could all post your model number for future reference for those who have similar issues or to know which models to avoid. Thanks
