Large vent hood

Love these boards - I get so much inspiration here! We are in the process of building a home. Our kitchen will have a cooktop area of approx 5 feet and I'm trying to decide on vent hood design. I absolutely love the look of the "funnel" looking vent hoods (French country style) and realize that I will lose some upper cabinet space if we go with that design. I'm having a hard time envisioning what this type of hood will look like over the expanded space. Does anyone have any pictures similar to this design that you could share?

Are these the types of hoods you are referring to?

Modernaire Hoods

If you, I don't think I have ever seen this type of hood with a cabinet above it. If not, show an example of the hood you are referring to. Also, with 5' of cooking space, a cabinet over a hood would be useless as it will most likely house two large ducts to handle that capacity of cooking odors.

For that large an area, considering you'll need a hood that is 66" wide, I would think something like THIS would look better than a funnel type, with no cabinets above.

Yes, I love the shape of the vent hood as shown in the Modernaire link. We already have the equipment & our builder will build the frame around the vent hood & we aren't planning any cabinets above the vent hood. I would just love to see some pictures of that style with the extended cooking area. My builder is concerned it will be too overpowering but that is the style that I've always wanted.

Sometimes when the hood is going to be very large, you might want the look of it to be spare and unadorned. This Mike Digiulio kitchen is one of my all-time favorites. Note that the backsplash under the hood opens.
