Looks like patti is still around, she last posted in October of this year on the fruit & orchards forum. I miss her on the citrus forum, she was the most helpful person. Hope all is well with her.

I brought up a heated post of mine that had a lot of older names. Some of them I didn't recognize. I commented on a thread that Joparich had commented on about missing him on the citrus forum. Baconquest is still around on the lawn forum.

There are other forums that most have gone too and Facebook has some good fruit growing groups.

I believe there is a chance that a lot of us northerner got tired of the amount of money/ time spent on citrus tree care/replacements for the handful of fruit the trees gave in return and gave their trees away or just let them die. Mine as still growing strong with the potential of growing to a size of 7 feet tall with the same diameter. Hopefully I'll get a substantial amount of fruit that I could not buy at the store.

I just bought 4 pounds of oranges for $1.99 that taste pretty good. Even though I picked my Meiwa kumquats half ripe they were better than most of the 20 pounds I bought.

I saw Darling clementines at Whole Paycheck selling for $4.99/pound. At Shaws they are $3.99/pound.

Darling Clementine $3.99/pound. If they are particularly tasty then they are worth growing at that price. Especially if you can get a couple of bushels per year.

John, there are so many forums scattered now hard tellen where they are, some are dead, some are too old(like me). This forum is like starting all over again. Some of the old members are on Facebook. I enjoy the old citrus forum, They had some good knowledgeable guys there, no pun intended.

I do everything the old way that has work for me still, no more craven for new stuff to learn except my flytying classes. I got to catch more fish of the lake and streams. I got fish beds all around my dock.

Steve, I got tired of growing FIG trees..What a HUGE pain in the but up here. As for citrus, I grow them mostly for fragrance so the lack of fruit for me means nothing now..But I do miss many of the ones that use to come here, too many to mention, but I have their e-mails and I can always keep in touch with them that way!

I still have a beautiful plant that 'Patty' sent me to this day and that reminds me of here every time)

I just looked up my old screen name before the switch to houzz....I used to be johnorange. I'm not nearly as OLD as some of the rest of you but I also miss some of the other folks we had before the big switch. That being said, the new folks here are priceless....lots of different regions, areas of experience, enthusiasm, and great photographers. I sometimes visit other forums here...figs, succulents, ginger, kitchens and this is one of the better forums. The fig forum and the kitchen forms are also very active though.

LOL! Yes, I thought my crop was a dead giveaway. I was just thinking about the old discussion thread discussing if the Ponderosa was a citron....still really don't know I guess.

You know the sad part?

Even though we may really love to happen certain people around, many leave for various reasons and yet many still that we are getting to know or have known will disappear too...I don't intend on leaving anytime soon, but I too miss many I have gotten to know and still, yet have kept in touch with many no longer or still around here..

Mike that is live, it is changing of the guards. The new ones will come if words gets around. I started with Nafex a long long time ago,there i new a lot of Fruit explorers, these were pioneers with no computers to make things easier and faster. The word Green thumb disappear and replaced by "GOOGLE".

The better forums will prevail!

This is a little history about my time with Nafex, i can rattle a bunch of names that i personally knew that are not with us anymore T.O Warren, Bob Kurle and so on. We organised trips to several Universities for seminars,Clemens,Berkeley to name a few plus visiting Orchards to go along with the seminars. Tons of speakers.
