We used to make our gift wrap when my children were little as a fun art project. We carved both linoleum and cut potatoes and stamped butcher paper with designs with ink from stamp pads. I always tried to find some creative things we could do to make Christmas fun. We also strung cranberries and popcorn to hang on the tree but my children felt that was more like work than fun (haha)

Guess I should qualify my statement. My children are now grown and I barely have time to wrap now, but it was fun when they were young. I most definitely understand not having the time Bailey R

Years ago I made wrapping paper by folding tissue paper and dipping the corners into food coloring. Would sometimes use an eyedropper and drop spots of color onto the folded paper. It was kind of like tie-dye in concept at least. Some of the results were pretty stunning if I say so myself and many times were very floral like in appearance.

i give too many gifts to make my own paper, but if i was a paper craft sort of person i could understand the impulse. i'm a fiber craft person so i'd rather spend my free time knitting.

I'm not exactly Martha Stewart, but ONE time, I got inspired when I found a perfect goose feather. It reminded me of the movie - "The Joy Luck Club", so I HAD to use it!

I made this nautical themed gift wrap for my friend, who lives at the beach. I made the anchor wrapping paper in MS Word by downloading a GIF image of an anchor, and repeating it across the page. Then I attached pine twigs that I clipped from a nearby tree and made the gift tags from cardboard. Brown paper packages tied up in string - these are a few of my favorite things.

She LOVED it so much, she took photos and showed everyone. Even her crafty daughter was impressed! She kept the goose feather - it's hanging in her home :-)

My wife hates it but I use news paper, usually the funnies to wrap her presents.

This year I had a white theme going for our tree and presents… So I took white craft paper that came in a roll doubled it so that it wouldn't become too sheer. Then with beautiful ribbons of different colors and patterns to finish them off. . It was a truly beautiful tree with white, mostly silver and gold and mixed it up with some red on the ribbons.

I'd like to be able to use the brown paper that comes as packing in some deliveries as wrapping paper sometimes, but it's too stiff and wrinkly. How do people use this stuff? Do you iron it first? And besides tying it with string, how do you dress it up? And even with the string, how do you tie it to make it look attractive? And how do you deal with the stiffness of the paper?

The wrinkles are part of the charm. Dress it up or down hemp twine or pretty yarn..... It's no stiffer than really nice paper. Heck I've even used old wall paper.
