Nice trees!! I also name my trees. I'll await to hear what others have to say, but I have all 23 watt 6500 cfls and they are working well. I think Steve said that he's read that providing light at the upper end of the spectrum is good enough. Plus, since they are near a window, they get natural light also.

I don't think you could overdo artificial lights unless they were too close and burned the leaves...definitely not with two 23 watt cfls.

The blueberry should probably be outdoors to get the chilling it needs.

Also, do you have a 2nd kind? It would increase the number & quality of berries.

It would be ok outside in a pot if it freezes? I am in Central Ohio.

If you have normal indoor temperatures that are comfortable for humans, the roots of your citrus are fine. The yellow in the leaves might be an indication of an iron deficiency -- but this is not the time of year to mess with it. My lemons growing outdoors have fruit on them now that is beginning to turn yellow, finally. Citrus are a fall into winter ripening fruit.

Most people don't grow citrus from seed. You won't get plants like the fruit. Most citrus is grafted onto a hardy rootstock, and the seed might produce the fast-growing and hugely thorny rootstock rather than the fine and delicate plant you are hoping for. The fruit may not taste the same. Can't say for sure, but it's good to be informed of the possibilities.

What is the white stuff on top the soil?

The white stuff in Gnat Nix. When I brought the plants inside this fall they had company. The gnats really loved the Lemonade Blueberry plant the most. Probably because of all of the peat moss.

I was just growing the lemon trees from seed as a project with my granddaughter. We also did some self watering containers with Basil and Cilantro in them. Im trying to get her interested in gardening. She is 5 and becoming inpatient and wants to pic the lemons.

I heard about the iron deficiency possibility. I did a watering with Epson Salt. The yellowing actually became worst for about a week. But the two yellow leaves (actually 1 fell off) are the only yellow ones left.

My indoor temp is set at 74 degrees. I might move it on the other side if the room where the vent is.

OK. So why do I have a few leaves turn yellow a few days after I water?

I water the Meyer lemon tree every two weeks now. I give it about 40 ozs of water and it drains out the bottom fine. I started watering it every 7 days when I first brought it in the house. Then 10 days and now every 14 days. The soil is pretty dry in the 1st 2 or 3 inches after 7 days.

I use tap water but I let it sit for about 5 days before I water my plants.

Yea its she vicious cycle for me. It says to water every 5 - 7 days. When I did I had a lot of yellowing leaves. Then I tried 10 days and still had them. I let the soil dry out for 3 weeks and now I've been at every 14 days for the last 3 or 4 waterings.

I last fertilized it in November. That was my last fertilizing till March.

It sits directly in a south facing window and gets plenty of direct light. And on cloudy days I have it under 2 - 23 watt (2 - 100 watt equivalent) CFL bulbs.

I'm thinking I need to repot it in a 5-1-1 mix. Hopefully it will make it to March so I can repot it.
