First of all, don't apologize for asking any questions. It is what this forum is here for. I grow mine outdoors almost all year long. Then, when it gets to be too cold for them outside, I move them into my unheated garage for the winter. They eventually go dormant and stay that way until spring. I leave them in their pots and leave them unwatered. When spring rolls around, they naturally begin to send out new leaves. I leave them in my garage until the weather warms up. That's when I give them a good watering and move them outdoors into full sunshine.

I plan on repotting mine this spring, before they go outside. That's because they have gotten so big that they need to go into a slightly larger pot. A lot of websites claim that they like to be root bound in smaller pots, but I find that not to be true. They love having plenty of room for their roots to spread out and grow. When this happens, they will grow much larger bulbs in the process. That's what I did for mine, and now their bulbs have grown much bigger. Which is why I plan on repotting them this spring.

Repotting is not necessary unless the pot is completely filled with roots or the growing medium is breaking down and slowing drainage. They will do better with repotting, especially if there are many small bulbs forming on the side of the parent bulb. Repotting in the spring before they start growing should be fine.

I always dry my pots downs in the fall. Sometimes I cut back the foliage and sometimes I just let it dry down in storage. I found there is less disease problems like Gray Mold(Botrytis) when I cut off the foliage before storing.

I have stored pots in an unheated attic and now store them in a shed(lowest temp is 40 degrees Fahrenheit) without any lights. The bulbs will let you know when it is time for them to start growing. I once had a H. striatum start to flower in storage without light.

Storing them in pots in the garage without light should be fine as long as the temperature does not get down into the 30's or gets above 55 degrees F. I would recommend cutting off any dead leaves. They should store fine until you can move them out in the Spring.
