Fan over eating area is probably not the best idea and I sure would prefer a chandelier there, but sometimes we just have to compromise. For every day, do you need the end chairs at the table. You could put one on each side of the china cabinet and that would help give some balance to that wall. The deco piece on the table is too large for the table. I think I would switch that for the right side of the top of the china cabinet and then slide the silver vase over near it. Then do something simple on the table line a long tray that you could arrange some decorative chunky candlesticks and candles. Try those things and see what you think. (Maybe hubby is afraid of crystals from chandeliers in eating area? When I say chandelier it doesn't mean crystals, it means a nice fixture, appropriate for the style and shape of table and other furnishings near by. For example, something like this one.
