Winter pruning

I began merrily 3 days ago with visions of getting the pruning, weeding, and tidying all done early this year. Now it probably won't happen. We have a week of rain coming in. It is most welcome rain, but it halts my efforts almost at the start.

Wait, this means I get to sew and read, all the non-gardening things I have been complaining I didn't have time to do.

Silver lining, folks!

Me too, Rosefolly, but I wouldn't dream of complaining about the rain. Love it! Lisa

We've been having light showers on and off for the past 24 or more hours resulting in less an a tenth of an inch accumulation. However actual rain has begun just in the past hour. Some areas are expecting up to 3 inches over the next few days. Exciting times, well worth a delay in outdoor activities.

We have some people installing a stairway on our steep hillside to make the lower garden area more accessible. I thought the rain would send them home, but they are outside working as I write. I feel sorry for them. I'm not going to follow their example.

I ought to take the dogs out for a break, but they refuse to go. Mr Dainty Paws (aka Archie) especially refuses to get his feet damp.

..unlike my Golden, Aris, who likes to lie on the dirt getting all soaked and muddy.. Lara is also impervious to rain as she is to most things that do not make much noise or do not move.. Thunder gets her excited though and she barks at the sky..

It's been pouring all day here. I went out (in the car to do errands), needed my biggest umbrella, my long raincoat, and water proof boots. Was actually kind of fun. I am only a few tens of miles from rosefolly - it is supposed to be dry here by Friday, and then they say a much stronger storm is coming for Sat/Sun. During the drought I swore I would never complain about rain again, and I am not going to, ever. Our "normal" annual rainfall July 1 to July 1 is 35 inches. So far we have accumulated 18 inches. It should rain through Jan, Feb, and March at least, so I am hoping we will end up with more rain than "normal" - first time in over 5 years.

Congratulations, Californians: it's time you got a break. We've had five years of marvelous abundant rain. And this winter? Drought. It's getting worrisome. It would be nice if California and Piacenza could get adequate rain at the same time.
