Oooh Anja, I fear you might have a mislabel! Here is mine, I took a peek inside and mine is most definitely orange. Lets hope yours darkens as it opens or maybe you got a special bulb mixed in, something good I hope. Mine will be several days before it opens. Maybe yours is Mosiaque?

Mine is getting there too! Brownish orange here. I think this one could be like Exotica's or Cappucino's flowers with flower color varying with light exposure and temperature.

Maria, I think you're right. Mine is sitting on a western window sill but we don't get so much light now because it's winter time...

Its definitly not Mosaique, Donna :-( Color is darker inside but not that nice orange that you have there. Its still not fully open, looks more like a trumpet now. I'll post a new picture tomorrow, it's dark and stormy outside now and I don't want to use a flash.

Mine is by the patio door getting sunlight all day (if the sun is out). Here's how mine looks like now after receiving a few hours of sunlight. Pic color is almost right...bronzy orange.

The flowers of mine are in the smallish side. Most probably 4-41/2 inch wide once it's fully open. Good flower count though...6 buds/scape. It's provided pictures of the bulb companies show a slight white picotee. That I cannot see from my flowers yet as of today.

Mine is getting better, I start to like it :-) I think it wil look better when all five flowers are open. Color is still a little paler than on Marias pictures. It still has a trumpet like shape, I hope it will open a little more. It didn't grow new roots unlike all the other bulbs I planted this year. I think it will improve next year :-)

On some of the petals I can notice just a hint of a white picotee.Anja

So far I'm not particularly impressed but mine is getting better. There is a second scape and lots more flowers to come so maybe some of them will be larger than the 3" my first and second flowers are measuring. I am glad though, I just got one!!☺☺

Mine has not rooted either. And it even had a pre-bloom surgery. Ha! I also ordered just one of this Donna. So I'm good that it survived surgery and still bloomed for me. On the other hand,,,my 3 Mystica all have scapes out!

Donna, your flowers are the most beautiful I think! I would be happy if mine looked like yours. They are not big but I expected small flowers. At least yours are fully open and you have the white picotee. I also like the darker centre.

Do you have any breeding plans with it?

I thought my flowers would open up more. It did not and is just around 3 1/2 wide today. I see it's very faint white picotee now. Hoping for bigger flowers on it's second scape.

Here she is this morning. The flower on the bottom although it doesn't really show, is considerably larger than the blooms on the first stalk, 3 + 3/4 " as opposed to 3" on the first stalk. She looks better than in the beginning but I can see that the very first flower to open is already starting to shrivel. Hopefully another year the flowers will be stronger and a bit larger. The color is great..

Donna, they look spectacular!!!! I love the dark red throat and mid stripe on the petals.

I bought this as Graffiti from LG this year but think it's Green Dragon. I bought 2 Graffitis and one bloomed 2 months ago and this one was way behind, just blooming now. Although the bulbs looked the same I'm fairly sure this might be Green Dragon, I had one years ago and loved it even though I eventually lost it. The flower is just under 3" depending on where you measure it. Here it is next to Terra Mystica which by the way I've already had to pick off 2 withered flowers. What do you think...Green Dragon??

Donna, i still wonder why your flowers have this bright stripe and ours don't, but maybe we will know better next year when all the bulbs are rooted and established. I still like yours best but I'm kind of happy with mine too. I love the color and with alomost four flowers open I don't mind the trumpet shape :-) My first flower is still open but maybe I have it in a cooler place than you?

Your maybe Green Dragon is lovely too! Emaryllis sais that Green Dragon always has a dark shading at the base of the scape. Does this help you?

Anja, Yes, both scapes have darker reddish brown coloration at the bottom third of the scapes. Actually, I am happy that I got this one because I had ordered 2 Graffitis and I wasn't pleased with the first one at all so this was a treat!!

Anja, are you finding that your flowers aren't lasting long at all. Mine only last a couple of days. I love the throat on yours.

Donna, the first flower on mine is fading today. That means it lasted a week. Not very long but ok, I think.

That is a awesome picture and I hope you don't mind, but I borrowed your idea and took a picture in natural light of mine that just opened up this weekend. I was a bit worried when I got this one from White Flower Farm cuz it had a split in the basal plate and I thought it was a goner. Maybe that split will encourage some offsets :-))))

It's beautiful Fred! The only time I get offsets on a split bulb is when it is a fresh damage ..not if it has all healed over but, good luck with that. Is this your first scape, if so you've probably got a few more coming!! The blue sky does set off the orange doesn't it!!

Thanks and yes this is the first scape, but I do see two more coming up. Did you notice that it took a rather long time for it to flower? I'm hoping that means the flowers last a little longer too.

Actually, my first two scapes shot right up and had more than 4 flowers but the flowers didn't last long at all. I was disappointed as I was picking of withered flowers before the last 2 or 3 had opened. This last scape that emerged well after the first two only has 4 flowers but they are about 1/2" larger and they appear to be lasting a little longer. The bulb is still quite firm, could there be a 4th??☺☺

Isn't that funny? Mine took about two months to flower.

how are yours rooting?? mine has flowered just as Donna's, two scapes right away and a third is about to open, but.. she's not rooting.. wich has me a little worried, i don't want to loose her. I'll see if I can get some rooting hormone to help her along. do you guys think i should scrape the basal plate a little to encourage rooting or just leave her well alone? there is one short root wich looks healthy. help1 i'm unsure what do to

I just checked mine and as it is in a see through plastic cup, I can see several long roots. I wouldn't say that it is well rooted but enough to anchor the bulb.

I would leave yours alone, if there is one short root then it is thinking about rooting and after it is through blooming I'm sure it will send out roots. If you find that it won't root, try siting the bulb on moist perlite on a warm surface. This works for me most times when I can't get something to root. Keeping the perlite moist is important as is the slight bottom heat. But, I think that yours will root on its own.

And it was worth the waiting :-) I had two scapes in the beginning and a third but that was stucked, now there is a forth scape and bud number three seems to move again. I wasn't sure whether I should order TM in the beginning but now I really like this variety!

Sabrina, I think mine just started rooting but I'm not too sure. It was without roots all the time and I moved it to a place above the heating 2 weeks ago. I would wait more time before doing anything. Some bulbs flower first and get roots later. I think this was actually the first year for me when almost all new bulbs rooted before flowering. Does yours have leaves? When they send out leaves usually the roots grow too...

I haven't done the tug test to see if any roots have developed. I think I'll just wait for the leaves to start growing and that will be the sure sign.

Hi Folks,

Just for the halibut, I decided to self a couple of flowers a week and a half ago and it seems like it's pretty receptive. This morning when I got into work I took a look at the pods and they seems to be swelling and I hope I didn't just jinx myself :-))) Has anyone else tried selfing this one? Sorry for the poor quality picture, but it was taken with my cell phone.

Fred, good luck with your seedpods! I didn't do anything with mine other than save the pollen, maybe if I'm lucky enough to have several papilio blooms (ha ha), I 'll put some pollen on one or maybe on a different cybister if the occasion should arise.

On a lark, I put some of my EBay # 4 (the pink with orange) on Terrone. I wasn't impressed at all with Torrone so I basically ignored the rest of the flowers. You might know, I guess the fact that I didn't care, made them take. I have two of the smallest seedpods I've ever seen but the one that appears to be perfectly formed, might yield a few seeds in each chamber.

The largest fully formed one is just 1/2" wide!!

This is the total of my success with seedpods this season so far but, it's early and I've got these exciting new Sonatinis to play with.

I didn't self mine, I only tried Mysticas pollen on TM. The pods looked very promising for some weeks but then shriveled. That doesn't mean that I don't wish you good luck :-) I hope it works for you!

Donna, good luck for you too! Your tiny seedpods remind me of the pods on H554. Very cute! I guess I'll try the pollen of #1623 on Spotlight when it opens but I won't pollinate the new Sonatinis. I just want them to grow first :-).

I tried the pollen of #1807 on everything that flowered here but the only one who seemed to have taken is Emanuelle. Hopefully it's not just a self...

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to let you know, about 6-8 weeks ago my bulb decided it did want to live after all and started putting out some roots. I really wasn't sure what would happen, it's been playing sitting rock ever since it flowered in january. After it bloomed i first had it sitting in ash for about a week to ensure it would not rot, and then changed it back to it's pot and let it sit on the soil without "planting" it, i only watered it very sparingly and only from the bottom, hoping the bulb would sense moisture, eventually it worked and it now is growing a few leaves. I don't expect it to bloom this season, but at least I haven't lost the bulb, since they're not offering it again this year. Anyways, thanks for reading :)

I'm glad it's pulling through! I have had a few lately that lost all of their roots for various reasons, and they have responded well to my similar conditions. Humidity and resting on something moist does well for growing roots back.
