Doorknobs!!

Looking for recommendations for a good brand for doorknobs in the $40 price range (for a dummy knob). I would love to get Emtek orb ball knobs (in link below) but can't afford anything close to this. The cheap brands I have tested all seem to jiggle and feel loose.

I have replaced a whole house worth of doorknobs with Emtek twice now, and in my opinion they are worth every penny. A beautiful, solid piece of hardware that operates smoothly and never jiggles. I will never go back to the others! Both times, I bought from www.taylorsecurity.com and got a great deal $60-70 per handleset (passage and privacy). I know it's not quite down to $40ea, but it's still about 50% less than the price in the link you provided! Maybe it's close enough for a stretch? Both times I've ordered, I was able to find a coupon code as well. Good luck!

We just replaced all of the doorknobs and hinges in our house. While I like the Emtek hardware as well, it just wasn't in my budget. Honestly, we've had the same (low) builder grade hardware in our house for 30 years and had only replaced one doorknob. So, I went with Schlage matt black "Georgian".

The one you linked to was a privacy knob -- do you need that or a dummy as you stated in parentheses? I think there are plenty of inexpensive handles out there that don't jiggle, even some very cheap options, as long as they are securely installed. Are you doing your whole house, or just a couple of spots?

Anyway, a smattering of what I found that looked decent. Look for a good return policy or a place you can feel them set up on a display. Or trust your installer.

I spent too much and bought the emtek. They feel much better in the hand, guests often comment on the look and feel. They are also a living finish- i.e. Their bronze is actually patina on bronze, where Schlage is a brown paint on base metal. They are both serviceable but there is a difference.

We bought Emtek for the basement and we'll have to change the ones in the rest of the house at some point,,the Schlage that came with the house are wiggly and some had to be fixed..Try Baldwin. They are cheaper than Emtek and better than Schlage

I need both dummy and privacy knobs. I'll look at Baldwin..Thanks! I have my heart set on a ball knob rather than a flat mushroom knob

We used Emtek craftsman style in a custom build and it was the only house we have ever had (out of 9 and counting) where almost all guests commented on how beautiful the door hardware was. For that reason alone, I'd use the Emtek products again.
