Well, this morning when I removed the frost sheets in the greenhouse, I found the three tallest plants out there, broccoli, had had their growing tips and upper leaves eaten off. The plants were at least 10" tall. I am assuming some little critter climbed up the stalks to do the damage. Darn it anyway.

I guess he had friends and they had friends. Back to trapping again. Darned little brats.

The traps are out there. The trick is coaxing them into them.

Our house was invaded with mice so I set traps. They were beatuiful field mice. Broke my heart, but there must have been more than a dozen and they'd be out in my garden in spring and summer.

I fought the little boogers last year. After trapping 7 or 8, they got pretty trap shy. I finally fashioned a cover of sorts out of 1/4" hail screen to protect my seedlings.

I did put out some poison, but out of concerns for the neighbor's cats, I decided that wasn't a good idea.

Just wish their dang cats were better mousers!

Dorothy, Maybe try peanut butter instead of cheese if the little boogers are stealing the cheese.

Bob, Yay! Nothing beats success. I try to ignore mice in the field, but not in the yard, garden, house or any outbuildings. Our cats control them pretty well most of the time, for which I'm grateful.

Bruce, I agree that the risk of using poison makes me antsy. Our younger cats are good mousers. Our older ones aren't. I guess maybe the older cats consider themselves semi-retired or something.

And, I'd rather deal with mice or even rats than with squirrels.

Maybe it is a lactose intolerant mouse. Or maybe your mouse is a vegetarian. He, she or they sure have been chowing down on a lot of veggies. I hope you can get it. Maybe subbing peanut butter instead of cheese might work.

Maybe a glue trap might work, though in my greenhouse if I put out a glue trap, whether I catch a mouse or not I definitely catch a cat. Generally a long-haired cat with the trap stuck to his side, back or tail while he runs wildly around as if he is being accosted by demons. Who says gardening isn't funny?

I have three glue traps and a spring trap and a mouse bait station. My cats aren't allowed in so no problem there. One of my glue traps has disappeared and I think it may be behind or under something with a mouse caught in it.

Might have been a good sized mouse to carry off the glue trap.

I had one do it once before when he only got the front legs caught and the hind legs still free. My daughter had one leave only its tail in one. It had to pull hard to break off the tail.
