Greetings fellow gardeners!

This is my first time on the forum, and I just wanted to introduce myself. I have a small backyard garden located in Lakeland, Florida. This is my fourth year of gardening in Florida, as I am originally from Georgia. It's taken a while for me to learn the soil and the gardening calendar, but it's been a fun challenge. I built a small aquaponics system and have been able to grow year-round with it. Currently in my garden I have 10 fig trees, cowpeas, eggplant, cherry tomatoes, swiss chard, chinese cabbage, radish, and several herbs and flowers.

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I look forward to reading up on your successes.

    Welcome, sounds like you're already pretty well adapted, surprised you're growing cowpeas at this time of the year. (I thought they were strictly hot-weather crops.) Glad you included the picture above, when I read "Goat Man" it conjured up images of some mythological oddity. LOL!

    Thanks. Yea, my cowpeas are slowly wrapping up. With us having such a warm fall and winter, they lasted longer than I expected. First time growing them and they did a lot better than I expected

    Hi Phillip, welcome to the forum! and yes that was funny Rita.:)

    It seems that you are doing very well with your gardening, it is nice to know, please share with us your successes. I love figs! in my small space I have one in the ground and two in pots and since I am the only one eating them here, I preserve them for gifts and some for me. I still have my trellis full of beans and peas. I have been very busy with the tomato season and every day I eat the never ending greens...Herbs are use daily for cooking and of course I have flowers too.

    Welcome to the forum Phillip. Wow! I'm impressed that you still have eggplants growing. Mine kicked the bucket when we had a cold snap. I dont have a large sun area so I grow tomatoes, cubanelle peppers, eggplants, green beans, sweet potatoes, noodle beans and all the herbs we use in my family.

    Silvia I noticed you have a couple of figs in pots. Do you remember when mine which is also in a pot lost all its leaves and I was worried about it? Anyway my question is how big a pot are yours in? I'm thinking that if I can I need to keep mine in a potbecause we'll probably move in a few years and I want it to come along.

    Silvia, that's very generous of you. Can I take a raincheck for a few years from now when we move? I have a small sun are here and it's all taken.

    Bea, of course! The figs are going to be waiting for you till you move to your next garden. The coming fig season, I will remember you and keep a jar of the fig preserves to mail you....

    Welcome. I love your avatar. Reminds me of the videos of the screaming goats. They get me every time.

    I would love to see your aquaponics set up if you are so inclined and have the time to post pictures.

    @Corey McCain

    How do you like it so far? I've been here ~11 years. Have you started growing anything yet?

    With the exception of the heat, I love being in Florida. Gardening is still a learning process for sure. I'm used to the red clay of Georgia. Florida's is equally as tricky with the sand...if not more. I was worried about my veggies with the latest cold front, but looks like all survived. I've got a shed where I start a bunch of my seeds, and I'm waiting to make sure the cold has past before moving them outside

    kinzyjr I love it here. Oh yes I have been working of a 2.5 acre project since I got here. I have a post I put up about a week ago titled "Central Florida fruit tree and garden project". You can watch the videos to see where the project was at in November. will be doing an update video around February 15 as it marks the one year point.
