Seed Catalogs

Which seed catalogs do you buy from and why? I've bought from Botanical Interests and Seed Savers Exchange in the last year and have begun getting a bunch of catalogs in the mail. Burpee's catalog made me sick with all the "new" varieties.

My top 3 are: Pinetree Garden Seeds (superseeds.com), Southern Exposure Seed Exchange (southernexposure.com), and Tomato Growers Supply Co. (tomatogrowers.com).

I've also ordered from Eonseed.com - they're here in FL, like Tomato Growers, and specialize in mostly native & tropical edibles & herbs.

Cody, it all depends on what you are looking for. In my case is mostly vegetables and I order from multiple places depending on if they have what I am looking for.

Like Carol, I had ordered from Pinetree, Southern Exposure, Tomato Growers but my first choices are usually Johnny's, Territorial, Bakers Creek and I also ordered from other vendors for tomatoes like Tatiana's.

I have plenty of seed this season but I still ordered from Seeds Of Italy, and I am still debating to place an order from Bakers Creek or Johhny's. If I want something from Burpee, I only ordered when they have free shipping since they are over priced.

I love the Baker catalog Rare Seed, I think that was is called now. I started ordering from them 20 years ago when they just started, beautiful heirlooms!

I was just turned on to a new seed site named Seeds Now. I like that they have .99 sample packs of some seeds that I had wanted to try, like Ping Tung long eggplant, but didn't want to buy a whole $3 seed pack. I like to try new things, so being able to get a sample pack is very good for me.

In the past I have bought from Southern Exposure, Seed Saver's Exchange and Johnny's Selected Seeds. I also sometimes buy from Park Seeds, but only flowers. It's a sentimental favorite, since I used to go visit it every year in SC to buy my plants. I was sad when I found out Park's Whopper would not grow in FL, because I loved that tomato.

Johnny's, Tomato Growers, Southern Exposure are my go-tos. I have bought from Baker Creek, but their seeds seem to fail more for me than the others do.

I buy mostly from Johny's and Baker Creek. Also, sometimes Parks, but they are expensive.

OT dirtygardener, I very successfully grew Parks Whopper here in Tampa last year. I still have some seeds.

Shuffles, it may well grow here in 9a, but it did not do well in 9b/10a. Yes, Parks is expensive, but they do have good end-of-season sales where you can buy seeds for the next season, and we have 4 seasons, so it works out well. I'm happy with my Cherokee Purples for now, and the best thing is that I can save seeds from it, since it's an heirloom.

I love Baker Creek's. Although not all of their seeds are "rare" as they claim, they have many unique varieties. Currently in my garden I have egglplant, cowpeas, and kale, all from Baker Creek. I spent much of my Christmas break (I'm a teacher) looking through their catalog. You can get lost in it!

Here is a 10% code for MIgardener's website. I ordered some basic seeds from them after watching a youtube video. Very cheap.
