Not much here in the BBS. HD had the seed racks and starting kits out, and what looks like whatever potting mix was left over from last year. I picked up some Alaska Fish Emulsion and Mater Magic there. Lowe's was pretty bare last I checked. So was Wal-mart, but the guy said it would be early February before stuff really started to get going in garden. I get as much as I can at Stringer's nursery, and I've already picked up some Tomato Tone, Garden Tone, Sluggo Plus, and seeds. They will be the ones to have onion sets and seed potatoes, as I never see them at the BBS.

My Lowe's here in Claremore had Ferry Morse seed racks out, and some of those seed starting packs. They told me the rest of the seeds wouldn't be in until next month. The seed racks are parked right next to the marked down Christmas ornaments/things, which I thought was funny. I particularly wanted to see if Burpee stocked the Brandy Boy seeds again this year. I hope they do. I'd like to get a couple of packs to put back. Their outdoor garden area was pretty empty, but I managed to buy some seed starting mix (It was frozen hard). I haven't been to Atwoods or Stillwater Milling yet, but will try to get over there this week.

Owasso Atwoods had Burpee seed racks (yes, I bought 3 things) and onion plants and sets. If they had seed potatoes I overlooked them. I did not see garden stuff in Tractor Supply today, though that was not what I was looking for when I was in there.

Turbo, it's possible that I bought Burpee's Brandy Boy seeds this week at Home Depot (as if I needed more tomato seeds). Try there.

Amy, thanks for letting me know about Atwoods and TS in Owasso. I could easily get out there to get anything I needed. Where are they located in relation to Hwy 169?

I've only been to two stores this week.

Had to run into Walmart for a couple of things. They have one seed rack (Burpee, I think). I did squeal real loud when I saw it. There is a stack of terracotta pots in the middle of the covered outside area. They also had the shelves of random garden/yard stuff that was left over from last year. It was tucked into a corner of the covered outside area when they put Christmas stuff out--and it's still there. They did have grills out. It was pretty lame, really.

Natural Grocers had the Botanical Interests rack as always, but it's still sparse. No Armenian cucumbers yet. I almost bought one of those seed sprouter things, but there wasn't a price on it. And I've seen sprouts grown in jars, which I have plenty of.

Tractor supply is in Skiatook, but I think they have one in Broken Arrow. Atwoods is just south of 116th street and Garnett in Owasso, about a mile west of hwy 169 at 116th. If you're in South Tulsa, Carmichaels in Bixby will have a wide variety of onions and potatoes.

Rebecca, thanks for letting me know about the Brandy Boy at Home Depot. Anyone wanting to grow that variety should snatch some up, because it's so much cheaper than trying to order the seeds. They are not only expensive, but you have to tack on shipping.

I just checked out the Claremore Atwoods, and they have Burpee seeds out. No Brandy Boy, though. The have Dixondale onion plants for $1.99 per bunch, and some other brand of onion sets. They also had tons of jars, and Mrs. Wages various pickle mixes. I bought quite a few packages of the Spicy Pickle Mix, since we all loved that flavor in last summer's pickles. I figured I'd stock up on it because it was the first flavor here to run out last summer. I'll probably go back and buy another batch after they restock it. I only left one package!

Brandy Boy is on my list! I'll need to check our Home Depot.

For those in Lubbock, I stopped by the tractor supply store and the onion sets were frozen! (Ugh!) please don't make a special trip, the young man helping me didn't know if/when they would get more.

Kim, Having the flu while you were in Denton just sucks, but both the flu and some sort of horrendous stomach virus have been making the rounds in south-central OK and western North Texas since Thanksgiving, and tons of people we know have been sick with one, the other or both.

Now, get busy ordering those seeds! The sooner you order them, the sooner you'll have them and the lower the chances your order will get held up in the big winter rush.

Those of you searching for Brandy Boy seeds. For a long time after it was first introduced, it was only available through the Burpee catalog, but for a few years now, I occasionally see it on a seed rack very early in the year. I think they only offer it very early and for a limited time, like maybe after the initial batch of Brandy Boy seeds sell out, they don't restock that one. I've also noticed that one is more prone to see it in stores in bigger cities and not as much in smaller ones. It is a great one that is well worth growing, but still not as good as Brandywine so I don't grow it often now as I once did. Instead, I grow Brandywine and just try to get it in the ground insanely early in order to have the best chance of getting fruit to set before the heat arrives.

Why can I not find Big Beef tomato seed in my local stores , here in OKC ? I order from Johnny's , seems every year.

I am pretty sure that I saw Big Beef on the seed racks at either Home Depot (which had both Burpee and Ferry-Morris) or at Atwood's this past weekend, but that was across the river in Gainesville, TX. Our Atwoods only has Burpee seeds. I see Big Beef every year on the seed racks, at least early in the season, before it sells out. I'm not sure why you're not seeing it there.

Thanks Dawn, admittedly I've not looked this year, but I did last year and could not find any and I went to Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware , and a nursery , ended up ordering from Johnnys, which may be best anyway. I'll go look at Home Depot and Ace Hardware.

TLC in Oklahoma City doesnt have their onion sets in yet either. I was hoping to grab some last minute garlic, and a bundle of onions, but they told me they should get them end of next week. (And potatoes) They did have about half of their seed rack stocked again. The greenhouse is full of tiny plants.. Can't wait til spring!

I was in Lowe's a few days ago and kinda got carried away at the seed rack. If I get all of these seeds started I have no idea where I will put them all. Can you get "kinda" carried away. Nope, got completely carrier away. Ha ha

amunk01, I need to take a little trip up to TLC and just wander around for a half a day. I will come out with a load of cactus and houseplants which I do not need. But I think I will schedule that trip any way. Ha ha

i am not kidding when I tell you guys I donot need any more indoor plants. I watered everything a few days ago and it took 4 hours to finish. I live in a jungle. I am afraid to count them, I think I would faint. Denial is everything, right???? If I divided half of them that needed it, I could open a nursery. I could call it " Crazy Gardener Nursery", right, good name.

Whatever it takes to get you through the winter! A jungle indoors gives you something to keep you busy when the winter weather isn't letting you do anything outdoors. There's nothing wrong with that! All gardeners live in denial in winter time. We have to, so that we can survive winter!

I can relate...I dread watering...because I like to let things soak up the water from my big mixing bowl. That DOES take at least all day (like an hour a grouping of plants). At least the orchids I have to just drench repeatedly and hope the bark is getting relatively saturated. However, it doesn't stop me acquiring more...it's a sickness.

My sister has indoor and outdoor jungles. Inside she has over 200 plant half of them African violets. When I lived closer I was the one that watered when she left town and it took over half the day. And most of the African violets are on wick systems. Now I will say I think the AF lovers are kind of a cult thing. Lol. At least that's what I tell her. They have meeting and parties and sales and shows monthly! Ya I wish we did too. Someday when I have house again I will have more inside. I will have to have better way to heat and cool. My son forgot to turn heater on and it killed my plants. I will wait to get more.

I keep drooling over orchids, but so far I have resisted. I have a pinterest board of succulents. This winter I have pinned really cool plants, they don't have to be watered and I can have as many as I want ;)

Yeah, I also save pics of super expensive jewelry I could never own, antiques I couldn't afford and vintage clothes from 1920s to 50s, because they are gorgeous. I used to save gardening stuff, but I've seen most of it now. I mostly use pinterest for recipes and day dreaming now.

Atwoods in Cushing has onion sets. I called. She didn't know if they were dixondale. I know they usually carry texas sweets, some reds and yellow and have had Dixondale, before. I might get out tonight and see.

She said their potatoes will be in about 2 weeks from now. They usually carry the popular red potatoes, kennebec, gosh... where's my brain? I think I left it on the pillow this morning ... the yellow buttery flavored expensive potatoes and some other minnesota white potatoes, another well-known variety. Maybe I won't be getting out tonight and should just go to bed early.

Yukon potatoes! That's the name I was looking for.
