My emergency room for the possibility of no electricity is my
bedroom. It is south facing, only one window, only one wall an outside
wall. Not much food in my fridge (on purpose), and unfortunately my stove is
electric, but I have a camping stove, and know how to use it. I will
not let the temp go down tonight, "just in case" so my house won't be to
cold to fast, if I loose power.

Good luck to everyone in the path of this ice storm.

Kim, I don't think, that would be enough to heat anything... but after this "emergency" I will get some. unfortunately I have neither the clay pots, nor the tea lights anymore.

I posted at the Kitchen Table, and will copy it here:

So far, so good. I went walking right
after I got up, was out the door by 6:15 AM. The roads were almost dry.
Yes, it was dark, yes, it was cold but not raining. I had a glorious
walk.

If it ices and power goes out, there will be no run the water, flush
the toilet to keep things from freezing. If the power goes out at
Audreys, she will have to be rescued! She needs her oxygen. I hope, we
don't have a power outage. I don't want to drive on slick roads.

But, if Audrey has a power outage, and I don't, I will creep up to
her house somehow, and get her. I have YakTrax to put on our shoes, and
thus, not slip and fall. It's just the driving that has me concerned.
Mind you, not my driving, but others driving. I don't want anyone to
slide in to my car PERIOD!

So, please keep us in your thoughts.

PS, Audrey, if the fire department can haul you here, if I have power and you don't, then let them!

Sooo, for right now, I think there was to much crying wolf... but I hope, we don't have any power outages!

Thanks, Moni! We stopped by Natural Grocers and bought some things to eat if the power goes out and we can't heat food.

Have yall seen how to create heat with tealight candles and clay pots? I think it would be a good set up if you don't have animals and kids.

I tried using the tea lights and candles with a pot in the greenhouse. It's messy it's dangerous and it really doesn't do anything. That said, the last time the power was out and we had candles lit, the candles did better at warming the house then the fireplace without a blower. Our fireplace is glassed in and has one of those blowers to blow the warm air into the room.

Thanks Amy... I sort of thought it wouldn't do much good.... but was going to try. I am even without regular candles. Left all that behind/got rid of, when I went to Florida....

I just may have to come up with money for a gas stove before next winter. Or, a wood burning stove... Would prolly be cheaper than going to a hotel/motel.
