That Hoya has leaves that are different like that. Mine always felt thin and looked rather dull and unshinny ( is that word?) rather like parchment paper. ...anyway, if they looked wrinkly, then maybe something is wrong, but just thin seems ok...especially with the new growth showing.
Thanks. I guess maybe a better description than thin is succulent and stiff. They were beautiful green, stiff and really healthy. I don't know what could have happened in a weeks time.
Seriously, new growth or not, I'd check the roots. My 3 types of callistophylla all have stiff leaves (when rooted), so I get where you are coming from, in mentioning the papery leaves.
Inadequate uptake of water causes that dehydrated look. This can be due to a poor root system or under-watering OR over-watering. With under-watering, obviously the leaves will appear leathery and thin. But, over-watering can do the same thing. The bloating of the roots causes a compromised root system (and can lead to rot), which, in turn, diminishes the uptake of water and nutrients, leading to the appearance of thin, leathery leaves.
Also, look on the leaves and stems for sucking bugs (FWIW, aside from the thin leaves, I don't see anything! It is a darn pretty thing!).
Callistophylla likes to be kept on the damper side, so make sure the potting media doesn't fully dry between waterings (I water mine every 5-7 days, depending on temp.).
Okay, thanks aurorawa. I had it in the humidity dome so wasn't watering as much. I also just sprayed with fipronil because I've had issues with thrips from some plants received recently. I'll keep an eye on it and next time I water I will water with KLN and ProTekt (1/2 strength)
