Hi tyler I live on the east coast of Australia near Nambucca heads cuddle fish shells/bones are the internal shell It is a chambered, gas-filled shell used for buoyancy control mostly calcum they are 1inch to about 14 inches in lenght

First, I had to look up what cuddlefish is (clearly not cuttlefish, which are cephalopods and have no shell). I was sure it's an English dialect for a kind of snail or bivalve but my search turned up this instead lol (Thanks for the photo, Pengus! Is the thing edible?)

Now I have to look up "bees' knees". Sheesh, my education never ends.

Anyway guys and gals, I think you will find it's definitely spelt cuttlefish, which Look like flattened squids and this is their internal shell/skeleton as Pengus said. I've found them on the beaches of Western Australia. Here in the U.K. they're sold to put in aviaries/cages for birds such as budgerigars to peck at to add calcium into their diets. As far as I'm aware, the flesh of the cuttlefish is edible, and not unlike squid.

Bees knees, yes, a fairly common English slang phrase, amongst others as there is a similar one which springs to mind and which could be used in a similar context, so all I will say is the dogs b*******. Apologies if I have offended anyone :-) That said, I prefer the first example, far more appropriate in this and most other instances.....other word isn't in my vocabulary.

Ahhh...I've seen those before. Purchased from the pet store when I had birds. Imagine just picking them up on the beach. Not in Southern California that I've ever seen.

sorry for the spelling mistake fokes Gill is right its spelt cuttlefish I can't spell for quids they are psychedelicly beautiful under water but not very cuddly at all the big one can get quite agro in breeding season

using salt water shells in freshwater aquariums also is a no-no. the salt leaches out/breaks down and causes brackish water, which some freshwater fish can't take. same with plants …
