It keeps getting worse lol

ok ruby sue is mostly rotted.all i can do is take a few cuttings but i have had cuttings of this one before and it did not root.can you tell me the best way to root these cuttings?

Good luck Bridgett! My Ruby Sue from Lowes looked beautiful (but soaked) when I bought it. I tried my best to dry it out in a sunny window with a fan on. Within a month it was dead:-(

Ok so I'd take cuttings of both. For Snow Caps, also take as many GOOD looking rooted bits out. Rinse off the excess soil.

I have my lacunosas in a fine mix of 1/8 inch orchiata bark, 1/8 inch perlite, and 1/8 inch chicken grit (#2 cherry stone/granite). It is small in size, which helps keep the cuttings in the pot while rooting, and keeps damp a bit longer, but still allows for quick drainage and areation.

If you don't have those materials, try rooting in straight perlite or sphagnum moss (no peat sphagnum).

Cutting directly below a set of leaves, and removing the bottom pair (or 2!) of leaves makes it easier to get a large enough stem to make rooting easy.

You can also just pot the cuttings into a small glass of water & then pot up w/hen the roots reach one inch long.

I know many folks recommend rotting directly in mix, but since you've had trouble repeatedly, I'm suggesting water rooting first.

I've done both & know that Lacunosas do just fine this way.

I future, I'd skip this buying of soaking wet plants (even if on sale). It's a crap shoot whether it's too damaged to yield cuttings which can survive.

I'd suggest a better way (I do this locally w/ my Home Depot, whose employees have told them they're instructed to water THREE times a day, irrespective of what kind of plant is involved).

Ask which days of the week they take plant deliveries & then get there SAME DAY before they've had a change to flood them so badly.

This way, I've actually been able to keep some of their plants & have them survive.

Bridgett - even though they were only $6 total.....remember Lowes has a warranty. Unless, it's voided due to the clearance price.

So in the future, if you see one you like at Lowes, go for it! Just keep the receipt :-) (in case it dies)

i will give these things a try.i have to t every time that i have tried to root a hoya in water it has just turned to mush.I just cannot for the life of me get a curtisii or lacunosa to root... Ive tried everything,but Im going to try it again!! thank you all for your help ,you guys are the best......

yes thats what ive done.small glass. i don't like to use plastic.then a very small amount of water,i have even tried water from the tap, distilled, spring, purified etc. in just 3 to 5 days they are rotted. i have never had these problems before i moved in this apartment.i know i might sound crazy but i really think its something in this environment...i'm not new to plants, just hoyas and i had probably 200 plants all thriving and beautiful for over 15 years.i move over here and it all changed..

I did bring a plant back to Lowes. It was an orchid I had paid full price on. I took it out of the pot at home and discovered that though the plant was perky and green above the mix, the roots were dead brown mush. The employee informed me that she would do a return for me this one time, but that their guarantee did not apply to houseplants. It's for outdoor trees and shrubs.

That's strange because all the Lowes in NC warranty all their plants for a year. Local nurseries only warranty their outdoor plants, trees and shrubs for a year.

i just returned another EA plant yesterday that was on clearance for $5. and they issued a credit no questions asked. I had many Lowes receipts and wasn't sure which one went to that specific plant and they looked it up with my credit card. Couldn't have been easier.

I have also returned many EA plants with the receipt and got my money back.

People help.my snowcaps are loosing all the leaves!! Some are yellow but mostly Green just falling when I touch the pot!! What do I do?

It might be too far gone but hopefully it will rebound. I really dont know what causes leaves to just fall off. I let my lacunosas dry out in between waterings and they are also under grow lights. I have 2- 8 inch royal flushes, an 8 inch ruby, and an 8 inch regular form. They are ll in the original mixes. I also have some that are in free draining mix and a few cuttings. They can all dry out a bit during winter.

I don't know why, but almost every time I repot an EA Hoya they die. I can take cuttings and put in better potting mix with no issues but a total repot is a big fail for me.
