I would consider a solid gray for the sofa and a rug in a color in a muted pattern, perhaps something like an overdyed rug.

A solid gray sofa would be easy, but you might also be able to use a different solid color sofa, such a gold, blue, or a wine color. It depends on the colors in your other adjoining rooms, and you also want to take into account the gold in the wood floors. Grays, whites, and golds can look great together and still be neutral. Regardless of the sofa color, keep the rug in a very muted large pattern so it doesn't compete with the chairs. Find either a rug or sofa you love, and then work from there.

The simple answer is go with a medium gray tone in perhaps a soft textured fabric like a microfiber. The more complex answer is to go for something more unique like a purple and then get lumbar pillows made for the chairs that pull the purple color to the chairs. Microfiber in a deep purple would be stunning!

It'd be better if you show more of the room - what features like fireplace or curtains, etc.. are there.... 2 chairs you say?

Thank you for the help. My living room is off our foyer. Typical cape style. Has four windows, plantation shutters everything else will be new so basing around these chairs

add a sofa with some color.

I think color that works with the gray print fabric is the way to go. With small children, I would prefer the purple, or a blue/gray, and possibly the yellow above. Not brown or orange or that buff or more gray.

What do you think about the black color. Like The black below or a linen black. The fabric on the Mitchell gold chair is like a black linen

If white is a no go because of kids, then black should be too! It shows just as much dirt, food crumbs, hair, etc...

Black is terrible to take care of. Everything shows on it.

Maybe try a blue sofa, like you see here in our design. It might be good to add color to the space.
