Well, since the NW tip of Arkansas is 6b, I would imagine passiflora incarnata would grow fine in z6. Allow for a placement with good winter drainage and be aware it spreads, but it also has tasty autumn fruits, if they mature before frost. I do not know if it's native to your state though...but certainly south of you.

If you read further....." it is not reliably winter hardy throughout USDA Zone 5 and may not survive extremely cold winters therein. " Most sources list z6 as the lower limit and even there will have total winter dieback.

yes of course that's what I thought, depending on the winter maybe once every 3 or 4 years. They would have to be very established.

Since the vine it totally herbaceous throughout it's range...die back is quite normal :) It might possibly be evergreen in a warm climate (as some sites say), but it does not tolerate any frost on foliage(from my experience)...so only frost free zones.

Depending on the plant you can sometimes get away with planting something a zone warmer and see if it survives.(dropping leaves and maybe some stem die back) I forgot they go down to zone 7 Passiflora caerulea is zone 7b. So If I lived in 6b I would try to plant it in a raised bed with some protection.

I am currently growing Passiflora caerulea and lavender lady in the greenhouse in zone 5b. In containers of course. I could plant them in the ground but they would loose the leaves for sure. The two are currently full of new growth and buds. I do need another variety to get fruit.
