I assume you'll grow it in container in Michigan and overwinter. If yes, while in FL water like any other plant, with ocassional aplications if all purpose fert. Easy

No the opposite I just received it in Florida in a 3 inch pot and I will be growing it here in a pot and then takng it back to michigan. What would be the best way to transport back in May and then to continue to grow it there. Should I cut it to the soil and it would then regrow there????????

I wasn't clear. I'm assuming that once you return to Michigan, you will grow in a pot and bring indoors in winter.

If you're flying, you can take off pot, wrap the roots in moist paper towels and stick in suitcase somewhere. Repot once in Mich.

if driving, just stick the potted plant in back seat.

You have
roughly 3 months to grow this small canna. It should grow considerable larger
and may actually begin producing its early first flush of blooms by the time
you relocate to Michigan. It would be wise to transplant into a 6 to 8 inch inexpensive
container reasonably soon.

When you are
preparing to move, you likely will need to remove all the foliage back to about
4 or 6 inches above the container ground level; making the plant more
manageable to transport. Keep the soil slightly moist if possible when transporting.
You may choose to place the pot/plant in a plastic bag with some air holes.
This will help prevent soil etc. from escaping and making a mess.

Upon arrival
simply continue to grow in the same container (larger if necessary) or
transplant into the landscape. The already established rhizomes will rapidly produce
in growth.

Thank you Kent this is what I was hoping. So next fall I can dig the rhizomes and store for the winter. They said it was a two year plant. I am trying to get a start of white Canna's .
