Should we do a new tea thread?
At the rate it's snowing I won't be able to open the door tomorrow. The wind is going to pick up over night just to add interest to the whole experience.
How are ya doin', Shades?

It's Tuesday! Pour me some hot, hot, hot tea, please! :)
I spent most of the day trying to move the old concrete birdbath base from the end of the north garden, around the front of the house, up the driveway, and into the cargo area of my car. I got the tall basin top moved yesterday.
I had to beat a path through the frozen snow crust from the end of the pathway around the birdfeeder tree up to the north garden, shovel snow away from that end of the garden, step over the rock border, pour water around the pedestal to thaw it off the large paver base, tip it over and slowly roll the humongous clumsy base about 25 feet to where I could get it up on a furniture dolly. The dolly was not too hard to maneuver over the paths he's made with the snowblower but it wouldn't go through the unsullied snow.
As I was finally wrangling it into the car I kept thinking about Shades moving literally tons of snow - while it took parts of two days for me to move the old birdbath a few hundred feet.
I found a place in East Grand Forks, MN that will sandblast it for me. I want it done now. When I bring it home It will be in the mudroom to thoroughly dry before I paint it. I want it finished and ready to go back in the Hosta garden reinvented as a Fairy Garden as soon as Spring springs!

OH Good heavens ImHappy and Caroline. I also have a snowed in door and nothing I can do about it right now. I can not shovel it out and over the piles already there with my sore ribs so it is what it is. I hope you left a snow shovel inside the house. I always have one in the house and one on the front porch.
Oh Caroline I am so sorry your bird bath was such a pain to move. I hope you are not feeling it tomorrow. I can not even imagine trying to move some thing in my yard right now. At all. I stepped slightly off my packed trail and both legs went down to my crotch and no bottom. What a chore to get out. I actually had a few moments of fear not being able to get out. Like being in quick sand.
All is well here today except I finally hit the wall. The Adrenalin that kept me going during the storms quit me and I crashed today. I did finally get my bed changed carefully because lifting is awful and I washed and hung one load of laundry. Then regular daily chores and wrapped up and mailed a package off. Nothing else. I just jet it all go. Tomorrow is another day and it will not be nice to be outside with cold inversion supposed to be coming back.
NO MORE SNOW for a week. Or so they are saying. Then we could be hit by another round of storms like we just had. Praying it will not happen. I do not know where it will go. I can no longer look out my windows unless it is up. Snow is piled up within a foot or two of the roof edge. I was leaning on the roof edge pulling the snow down. My hip bones are sore and bruised from that.
I am drinking Lemon Ginger tea and it is delicious. I also started making a second pot of coffee to get me through the day. Then going on to tea right up to my bed time.

Original Author9 years agoI have an attached garage so if worst comes to worst I can open that door and shovel myself out. I did sort of clear the garage approach at chore time tonight but it was snowing faster than I was pushing snow. My plow man will deal with it. If the wind comes up as it's forecast it won't matter whether I shoveled or not. I hope we don't get as much as they said we would. And I really hope it doesn't blow. All the fools out driving around in it will end up in the ditch.

Sending warm thoughts from Costa Rica. My tea today was English Breakfast, open air dining room.

Beautiful Eld. I would love to see some pretty green around here. Will be awhile.
ImHappy we did have the wind today. Some thing about a high setting in?? Not a weather person. No more wind tonight and it is still fairly warm. Tomorrow it is supposed to be cold again. I do hope you do not get a big load of snow just as you were starting to see the bottom of it. Going to be a pretty nervous spring around here with the run off. Even if no more snow falls.

we've had more than usual cold here - rains and chilly temps. we usually would be expecting that in the next month. I hope it is over. I'm so sick of rain.
the sun was out a bit today. I did some wash too and hung it outside. just an old bedspread and sheet the were left over from the old place. might not even be usable now but I wanted it clean before I really checked 'em out. will most likely use for plant covers tho. the desert dirt seeps into things here. Even if just not used for a time, things will need washed. I bought a zippered plastic bag for my blanket. Once I check how it fits in the bag, I'll know what size to buy a few more of... for other comforters and blanket.

A day late and new to this forum. Hello I am on the other side of the country - I am in icy central Maine. It has actually been pretty warm for here. A messy storm of ice snow rain oobleck is just winding up. I am drinking oolong and mint tea. Then I need to chip out my car so I am ready when the plow guy comes.

Original Author9 years agoWelcome to tea, Amanda.
Shades, I do worry about your run off next spring.
The excavation guy was here yesterday. He can solve my water problem for about $800 maybe as soon as March, depending on the weather. Everybody make a note on your calendar. I'll let you know when winter is over. I bet it will be May 1. I haven't figured out where the $800 is going to come from.
Here's my brand new clean snow. I don't know how deep. I thought about taking a yard stick out with me and then thought it wouldn't be that deep to be newsworthy. I'll measure that shovel. Once the wind comes up it will all get rearranged. It's fine snow now.

ImHappy every one is worried about the run off come spring. It is going to be bad. Since there is absolutely nothing I can do about it now I am trying very hard not to worry. All ground around the house is sloped away from the house as can be seen in a few of the pictures. The house sits up and everything drains away. Even on the court yard side.
That is a fair amount of new snow for you. I think we have close to 4 foot at least on the undisturbed ground now. The piles around the house are close to the edges of the roof in places. Some places a few foot down.

Today is going to be a pamper me day and finish the laundry and cleaning the house. Still feeling the effects of the hard work. Trying to just not push myself too hard right now.

Original Author9 years agoI found out a few years ago every time I had a "build Rome in a day" day, I paid for 2 days following. I would end up with the same amount of work done if I spread it over a day or two and I didn't nearly kill myself in the process. If you do get the 2 or 3 day break, take advantage of it.
Right ImHappy I am resting and just puttering along Trying to get some things done . Just slowly.
Thing about getting the snow/ice off the roof as fast as I could is I knew the cold was coming and it would freeze back up tight and I would not be able to budge it. I had to keep pushing through while the temps were in the high 20's and 30's. I could break the ice then. Now I could not be able to budge it. Was 18 when I got up at 9AM. I have not even thought to look what it is now. My thoughts on this follow "Make Hay While The Sun shines."
One load of laundry folded and put away. Order of cat food that arrived yesterday, 5 cases, put away. Second load of laundry hung up. And biggest thing is my fingernails are finally cut and filed. OH MY. Such a simple thing kept being put off because I just had nothing more to give to get some thing done. I used to like my nails long. I do not now. They snap off down to blood if they get too long.Sitting for my last cup of coffee then switching over to tea. I am already for a nap and might just let it happen.

That is to bad. I know she had not been well for a long time. She was Great.

Original Author9 years agoNo wind last night. Waiting for the other shoe to drop. AND it must be 30°! I wore my insulated bibs for chores and nearly sweated to death. I could see the flag was waving so I assumed it was cold.

I really feel for you gals with all the snow. I am so thankful that we haven't had to deal with that yet. Maybe we will be lucky enough to skate by without it. But it's nice to see you all again. I can't believe it's Thursday already. It's been a very busy week. I found out yesterday that the woman that lives across the street had to go to the emergency department at 2am. She isn't healthy to begin with. I've been getting her mail from the mailbox by the street and putting it up on her porch because she wasn't sure she could make it out to the mailbox. So I found out that her phone wasn't working and she had to work her way down and across to the next door neighbors who still had lights on and they called 911. So I went to visit her in the hospital and offered to take her home if they were going to release her. Her sodium levels were dangerously low. But they kept her overnight. Then we thought she would come home this afternoon. But she had another episode of her sodium dropping so they are keeping her again.
We also had the farmers' market today. Not a lot of customers today, but one farm brought three baby pigs for us to see. Too cute.

Oh and the dogs got groomed today so they are nice and clean and smell great. I completely missed out on any tea today. :(
User
Original Author9 years agoCute now but not so cute later! Still, it's hard to know people will kill them and eat them.

Yes, farming is a tough life for animals and people alike. The only thing I can say is that this particular farm's focus is giving their animals the best, happiest and healthiest life possible. Chickens are free range, goats are raised for milk and the pigs are outdoors too. Cows and goats are grass fed and naturally raised.
- 9 years agolast modified: 9 years ago
Piggies are darling and it really sounds like the farmers are doing the very best they can to let them live a happy life while they are on this earth.
No more snow yet and hoping the next storm will swing one way or the other and miss us.
Got to do a little mosaic on my hallway wall yesterday while listening to audio book. Was great. Hope to do more today.
Finally starting to recover from the weeks worth of snow removal. Day after day starts to get pretty brutal. Buildings still going down.Washington county Fairgrounds sale barn roof went down yesterday or day before. So sad. The exhibit hall went down a few years ago. Had to be totally rebuilt. I heard the National Guard has now come in to help with snow removal And whatever else they can do.
The most amazing thing is the Ridleys Market in another town guessing 30 miles from Weiser has offered free grocery delivery service to the people of Weiser. WOW that is amazing. The Ridleys store in Weiser that went down hopefully will be back up and running in another week or so in another building.

Original Author9 years agoThat is wonderful news! Not as good as having your own grocery store up and running but a close second. Is there any opening date for the new store? Existing building?
I can't believe my luck. It didn't blow. Didn't dip very far below freezing. And I have sun!

Lucky you it did not blow. That is a good thing. Our fence posts are disappearing along with the tops of the fences.
Not sure when the new store will open. there was a commercial building the hospital was converting to offices and said they can wait for their offices and let the grocery store take it over as long as it is restored to what it was when the new grocery store is built. I was told it would take two weeks a few days ago. That is hard to imagine. I did hear they were trying to get the cash registers out of the old store to use. It was a fairly new system.

Original Author9 years agoTwo weeks working 24/7!! But I'm sure they are as anxious as you guys are. It can't storm for 3 weeks just to be sure.

You know, Shades, how refreshing it is to hear of people being kind to each other and helping each other? The whole country should take a lesson........... I hope you have turned the corner now on crummy weather.

I decided to check in on this Tuesday tea thread, as I keep forgetting. By the time I remember another Tuesday has come and gone. I haven't had any snow stories to speak of until yesterday and this morning. It's been snowing, but not a whole lot of accumulation - so far.
Took advantage of Harney Sons' free shipping offer and ordered a tin of Earl Grey Supreme sachets, Royal Palace sachets (new to me), and a 7oz. tin of loose Cranberry Autumn. I prefer loose but the first two only come in sachets, plus sometimes it is more convenient to use tea bags. Normally I type up an order and send along a check but after calling them to make sure the free shipping wasn't only for online orders, the person told me he'd complete my order form online. No need for me to send one snail mail, just put the check only in the mail. That way I'd be sure to get free shipping before the offer ended. That was nice.
I really have no plans for today. I don't watch daytime TV and I finished up my favorite crossword puzzle book. Instead of driving from store to store searching for it whenever new issues come out, I bit the bullet and ordered a subscription. Kind of pricey but in the end I'd be paying that much over the course of a year buying indiv. books anyway. I may put on my boots and go out for a walk for some fresh air. My cuppa later today will be Yorkshire Gold.

ImHappy I agree the work on the grocery store must be going on around the clock for it to be opening . But the building they took over had been a retail store. I would imagine all the shelves would have been moved out. Not sure what they could get out of the old store before it was demolished as I heard that was in the process. Since the National Guard has been called in I am not sure if they can do anything to help this store situation but just getting the roads cleared was a huge help for people and emergency vehicles.
Lots of help lines have been set up for people needing help with snow removal. Of course my snow is cleared for now but I happened to have a second young strong guy stop by to offer his help when/if we get bogged down like we were. He said he has a tractor and can clear my driveway for me and work on the roof snow removal if i need it. It is so weird the snow sticking to the roof like it has this year. Old timers having been around 70 or more years said they have never seen this happen in their life time. The heavy snows yes but to all stick and stay up on roofs is not normal.
I still need to get out and do a quick shovel of the snow that drifted around in my driveway before the next storm comes in. I am in no hurry to get that done but I guess I better do it soon. It is not much and only on one side of the drive. Warmer out there so far today so maybe today is the day.

"I used to like my nails long. I do not now. They snap off down to blood if they get too long"
I'm the same way. I have to cut mine back every week or so. They grow so fast - so does my hair. I don't like the nails long because they will crack or break where I don't want them to - and it can hurt. And I use my hands too much (cooking, cleaning, petting dog etc) to worry about them.
I think I'm going to need to have my hair cut about every 3 months now because it really bothers me when it gets down to my shoulders. Same with my toenails (no, not down to my shoulders!) and I have trouble twisting into a pretzel to do them anymore. So, another thing I have to plan on to do about every 3 months at least. that I usually do with my sister. She has always gone more often than I do. She'll go just to change the color of the polish, especially if something special is coming up for her to do (like a trip or her dh's work holiday party). She gets the fake nails on her fingers. She's always had a problem growing them and is envious of mine growing so quickly. I wish I could trade her!

" I happened to have a second young strong guy stop by to offer his help when/if we get bogged down like we were. He said he has a tractor and can clear my driveway for me and work on the roof snow removal if i need it"
oh, that is super! be sure to take advantage of his offer. Remember, it's good to help others, it makes one feel super good inside. So, help him out with that!
My youngest son went over to help an old friend of mine from back home. She's in her mid 70s now and had recently recovered from a broken leg, so I was very pleased that he thought of her needing help and went there on his own. Her dh died several yrs back and both of them had a part in 'raising' my kids. Their house was my kids' home away from home. Our younger kids were constant companions and her older kids babysat my younger ones. Her kids all ended up moving to other states, while mine moved away, then moved back. So, I'm glad she has my kids there when she needs help.
So nice of him to do this Steph and I will let this young man help me.
I just shoveled my driveway again. It was not much of a job today and the sun is trying so hard to be out. the wind blew some snow off my tall piles down into the driveway. It is also fairly warm out there today at 22 degrees. Unless the wind blows again before the next storm comes in I am ready and waiting. Still praying it shifts back up to the north.

Original Author9 years agoHi, party. I recognize your name, too. Someone will start a new Tuesday Tea thread today so watch for it.
So far, and it's still early yet, our snow has fallen deep and melted before it falls deep again. I don't recall a winter like that ever in my life.
And I tried that stuff for nails a couple of years ago when all you guys were talking about it but it didn't work for me. I sort of discovered that poor circulation was more to blame.
Thank you Party_music50. I might not want my nails to grow long but I really do not like them breaking bellow the quick. I will see if I can find that around here or order it online.
Yes that snow is going to come at us again for another 6 to 12 inches over the next few days. Not looking forward to it. But it can stay on the roof as long as it does not get the freezing rain on top of it. That is what started the whole mess of roofs going down in the county. and the one guy did charge me 150 to clear the garage roof and it was not totally cleared but he had to get down because he kept falling down and it was getting too dangerous to be up there. It is a well built building and should hold up.
Please come back to our tea thread when some one starts it today. I need to get after chores just in case I get to go pick up my prescription today. A lot of if's on that one.
Hi Party! Good to see you here. I hope you will join us regularly. :)
- 9 years agolast modified: 9 years ago
Welcome Party! I recognize you too.
Tea time continues until next Tuesday, when we start a new thread.
I am a lifetime member of Weight Watchers, which means I only have to check in once a month to keep my stats.
However, I just got back from vacation and I stepped on the scale, and let's just say it was not good.
Today, I decided to go to a meeting, but not weigh in. I bring my tea and have it during the meeting.
So, today I purchased an English Bold tea from Dunkin Donuts and sipped on it during my meeting.
