I honestly don't think that I've ever seen a sunflower that fits that description. They all are tinged with russet or chocolate overtones....even the most luscious burgundy colors look like chocolate to me.

'Prado Red' and 'Red Sun' are about the "reddest" sunflowers but as previously mentioned, are really a bronze-mahogany color. The red sunflowers you see for sale as cut flowers are actually dyed that color (allowed to soak up dyed water).

everyone--Thanks so much for your comments--it drives me a little nuts when I google images of flowers--one picture of a variety looks gorgeous, and another picture of that same variety looks awful!! Thanks, garden gal, for mentioning Prado and Red Sun, because I had seen some really nice pictures of those 2, and was considering getting them, even though they aren't actually 'red',
