"Silent Spring" by Rachael Carson

Over the course of the past few nights, PBS has been showing a documentary on the life of Rachael Carson, whose book "Silent Spring" won national acclaim at it hit the best selling list back at the end of 1962. Such a remarkable lady who has impacted all of us - from then through today. Her story is one that we should all be aware of as it's the story of our food as it is affected by chemicals, but also through the entire chain of life that reaches beyond America.

Do yourself a favor and take a few moments to watch this free posting that PBS made available to us. It's an awesome and inspiring story with tales of tragedy to the extent that we have yet fully understand. There are those of us that question the beginning of where cancers started entering our lives. For that, who’s to say? But, there is no question that poison must play an important tole in it. For those of us who go back that far, we can remember the fumigation that took place. But, to what price? Learn for yourself and decide if this is a video you'd like to pass along to your friends. It's still applicable today as the offenders then still flourish in our marketplace now as they have spread worldwide.

Bottom line: Be very cautious when working with chemicals in your yards and gardens as all those insects have a role to play in feeding the next chain up. We are in that line of life.

You be your own best judge.
