For clarification
purpose:

After
nicking, did you soak in warm water and for how long? I typically soak in warm water
which can be changed every couple of days or in a sealed plastic bag with a wet
paper towel to provide a constantly moist environment. I try to keep the seeds soaking
in a very warm environment (above normal house temperature).

I do have
access to a seed germination table with bottom heat and grow lights but that is
not necessary. It simply speeds up the process and provides low constant heat.
Improvising improves the germination time line (maybe place on top of your hot
water heater, etc.). I usually allow the nicked seeds to sit in the water or
sealed bag until the seeds actually begin to swell and produce the first sign
of growth (3 days to a week).

At the first
sign of growth we replant (underground) the germinating seed into a sterile growing
media. This helps prevent damping off due to bacterial infection. This normally
takes only a few days for first leaf growth to be produced.

Once first leaf growth appears, place in warm open
air growing area with abundant light and good air circulation. Replant if
necessary.

This may
sound much more difficult than it actually is but will produce a high
percentage of germination success.

I did soak for 3 or 4 days. I am in Florida and we have lots of sun and the temp is 70 to 85. I planted them on the 4th of January. Bag over them and if there is too much condensation I turn the bag inside out. Maybe I am just not being patient enough. I have 10 more seeds and just wanted to ask if I had done something wrong.

Your procedure
is adequate:

Before you
planted, did the seeds show signs of swelling or the first primary root
emerging? That is the best sign of germination and I assume that this was not
apparent before you planted. You may
need more patients in this case.

What was
your source for the seed or the variety? Did you nick the seed to a depth that
revealed the inter-white endosperm?

On
occasions, canna seed may be bad or contain damage to the endosperm. A simple
way to check is to place the seeds in a glass of water and any that float are
usually bad. You may wish to check your other seed.

No signs of swelling or root emerging. They are supposed to be a white canna bought from Outside Pride. Hopefully I will just be patient. Thank you for your help

Keep warm and moist and they may do fine.
