If it smells really horrible, it likely won't hurt you (except maybe making you feel queasy) but really bad smells are a signal that substances are being produced that can be harmful to the worms. If the scraps are smelling bad, you should aerate the scraps more, add more bedding, and not hold them at room temperature after freezing for any longer than it takes to thaw them.

If it just *looks* funky, that won't bother the worms any - they don't have eyes. :-)

8 years ago I wore a mask, goggles and gloves for this. My neighbour across the street thought I was conducting brain surgery in the garbage bin. Now I just wear gloves, turn my head away and do not breath in, add lots of dry shredded paper on top.

Another thing, if the scraps have been pre-frozen, I don't think you need to run them through a blender because they will be soft enough once thawed. I pre-rot scraps and juicing pulp in buckets (with lids on) and use as feed once they're soft. My family was complaining not finding human food in the freezer especially around Halloween.
