Joseph, my objection to corian or quarts is that it’s not heat resistant.

Since the trade association of the natural stone industry, the Natural Stone Institute, recommends trivet use on natural stone, just like solid surface and estone manufacturers do, it makes them all equal in the heat resistance department.

Thanks for mentioning that metal can stain Lapitec. I have a 12mm-thick sample of Lapitec Essenza in Bianco Polare and tapped it hard a few times with a stainless steel measuring cup. This left visible stain marks that didn't come off with regular dish detergent and wiping with a sponge, but scrubbing it with some vinegar and baking soda lifted the stains easily. The sample didn't crack or mar physically as far as I can tell. A sample of 6mm porcelain tile that I subjected to the same treatment didn't stain (or crack or chip).
