I don't grow Little Butterfly, but I do have several others from the same breeder, Wim Snoeijer, and like every one of them. He bred one of my favorites, Little Bas, but I also have about 5 others.

I am fairly sure that this is Star River; it blooms for a long time.

I also have Jan Fopma and Purple Spider, but neither is large enough for good photos yet. Mississippi River got eaten by voles its first winter.

Thanks! I forgot to say that choosing a type 3 hard prune like Little Butterfly, Fascination, or Little Bas rather than a type 1 or 2 prune (which typically leave vines on the trellis for spring blooming) is a good choice since after hard freeze you can cut type 3's back to a couple of buds per stem and just enjoy the bare trellis. Your trellis is also ideal since the diameter and distribution of the bars is perfect.

I grow several of my clematis into shrubs, a technique I learned about here on GW. It works best with stiff-branched shrubs like the panicled hydrangea "Quickfire" in the photo above since flexible-branched shrubs get pulled out of shape. I use clematis that have longer spaces between the leaf/flower nodes so that it doesn't shade the shrub too much.
