I am thinking of ordering some streps and you are making them look pretty tempting :)

I love them. If you grow African Violets already, keep in mind that ideally these like to be a little drier and airy (think LOTS of perlite, especially if you wick) and if possible, a little brighter light. Mine are under high output T5's for example (6500k), but they can do all right beneath standard T8 florescents, especially if there are multiple tubes, or LED's. I'm aiming for about five to six thousand lumens per shelf.

The big thing is they like to be potted high (crown/leaf stems on top of the soil) and if you hand water, allow them to dry out between because they really do not like to stay wet or they rot. Also they don't like to be in large pots. Best to keep the pots not a lot larger than the roots can spread within a couple of months. Like other gesneriads, when they start to become pot bound is what usually triggers flowering. So much better to keep repotting them up to /slightly/ larger pots than to bump them up to a big pot too fast.

Don't be afraid to try them. I'm glad to help and there are some great groups on Facebook too.

Oh, and by the way, they are often easy to grow from leaf pieces so if you get one, take a leaf cutting as soon as you can and pot it up. Damp but not wet, just like you would an AV leaf. Then bag or dome it under bright light and wait to see if you can get babies. It's good to have a backup in case you screw up and lose your plant. Or you can start with leaves and grow your own to begin with. Terri Vicnezi sells excellent leaves. I only sell baby or adult plants but not leaves.
