Countertop opinion

We will have hardwood floors, white shaker cabinets, stainless appliances, and a maple butcherblock on the island (I've included a picture of the butcherblock). We only have 16 linear feet of counter along the back wall (across from the island) and I can't decide on a reasonably priced countertop for it. Since the butcherblock is the star of the kitchen I don't want anything to compete with it. Any ideas?

If you like industrial you could do stainless. Maybe more modern then solid surface or quartz. I would defiantly use a pretty solid color though.

    Your butcher block is gorgeous!

You can absolutely use white, or black Corian, or laminate. Someone highlighted this cement-like IKEA counter the other day. You can't get more affordable than that, and it looks fantastic.

I'd go with something mainly white (whether stone, solid surface, or laminate) and let that gorgeous butcher block be the star!

I would definitely keep it very simple with a white plain quartz

I wouldn't recommend solid black Corian Nocturne for a horizontal kitchen application. It needs a semi-gloss finish to look halfway decent. You'd be installing a scratch factory.

Thank you everyone! I'm hesitant to use white for the countertop since we already have white cabinets and am doing a white subway tile backsplash. Any thoughts?

@eam44 - I tried to convince my husband about that very same countertop, but he's not a fan of laminate. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

I'm planning to do the same thing, but with a walnut butcher block. Did you say yours was maple? That is so gorgeous! I cant believe it's maple? where did you buy this from, please?

Anyway, I was thinking soapstone, one with very little movement. Or a light gray quartz. And like you, I planned on white back splash, white cabinets, so I thought adding white counter top would be too much. I still haven't ruled it out.

If I chose this route, I would probably consider picking a light gray subway tile, instead. I think this way my hubby may agree and perimeter not so sterile.

However, with the movement you have with that butcher block, I think white would be best. It would all makes sense of your choices. Make that butcher block the star.

Please post what you choose to end up with. I cant wait to see the end results.

I have a walnut island top in my current kitchen and I love the look that now that we're getting new cabs (white), I'm keeping my walnut island top. This is one of my favorite kitchens and the perimeter tops are a quartz with some gray in it- they too have a white subway tile backsplash. There are some better views of these tops in other photos of this kitchen.
