I just hate to hear that about Sunrise Acres. The Stelles are such wonderful folks and surely will be greatly missed by the gardening community there in your part of the state.

I don't live in central OK so don't know who might have a similar operation, but think the place to begin looking would be either via the Oklahoma Food Co-op or the local Farmer's Market. I know there are people who raise seedlings (and I imagine at least some of them are raising their plants organically) and sell them at the Farmer's Market.

You also might check the Local Harvest website for the OKC area and see if it lists any organic farms that sell plant seedlings. You also might check some of the local farm supply stores. Sometimes they have locally grown seedlings.

Do y'all have Atwood's Farm and Ranch stores up there? The one near us (it actually is across the Red River in Gainesville, TX, carries seedlings in the spring time, and at least some of the plants they sell are raised by Red Dirt Plants, which is based in Guthrie. I've never bought their plants because I raise almost all my own seedlings myself, but the ones I saw at Atwood's last year looked great and they had a nice selection of different varieties.

Maybe some of the forum members here who live in the OKC area will see this and respond if they have any local sources for seedlings. It might be hard to find any that are organically grown and that will match the low prices of Sunrise Acres though.

Thanks for the info. It really is sad about the Stelles. My family always loved going to their farm to buy plants. They were great people and we are sad to see them go.

There is an Atwoods near me in Norman I will check them out. I will also check out the local farmers market. The funny thing is I was talking to Robert last year and he supplies plants to a lot of the stores around here. I am curious where they will be getting their plants from now.

I just found out yesterday that they were closing and was planning on getting my spring garden from them in a couple weeks. I may end up setup a place to grow my summer veggies but I don't have time to start my spring veggies from seed this year.

William, From what I have heard, the decision was based on Robert's health. It is so sad. I wonder if the decision was made so recently that the stores that used to carry their plants may be scrambling to find a new supplier.

I hope you can find a good plant source.

I bought all my plants and some fresh produce from the Stelles when they were at the OSU-OKC farmer's market. I was surprised to see they weren't there last year (or was it the year before?) and was told they were semi-retiring. Sorry to hear it is due to health.
