Cant decide on granite!

So i need help deciding on a granite. Do i go with a large pattern? Or small pattern similar to laminate countertops? We dont want black. We know that. And my floors are tan, walls are tan. And dont want a tan countertop and backsplash. So i was thinking of taupe for the countertop. Here are some samples and pictures of slabs.

this is bordeaux dream from msi, it is my favorite as far as one with a larger pattern. And not to blotchy or bold. In person its like taupe, tan, pink, burgundy, brown.

this is desert brown, very simple. My husband hates it and thinks it looks like puke. But he might like it once installed. Also he says it looks cheap like laminate. Which it is a cheaper granite.That doesnt bother me.

ok so this is some of our samples, not a very good pic. But from left to right is giallo ornamental, which seems too tan for me, then new venetian gold, also too tan, desert brown, ikon brown, amberly ornamental, also too pink and tan, the two top ones next to that from left to right are, snowfall, and mocha vyara, bottom too are white ice, and alpine quartz, and the last one is the boredaux dream.

my kitchen, the floor has taupe, tan, white, and small bits of amber streaks. Walls are tan, and dont really want to change them its the same color as the rest of my housex which is super small and the living and kitchen i would like to look like one big roomm with the same color instead of breaking it up. Beautiful design thus far! I like the bordeaux you have chosen. Have you considered softening the backsplash with a soft, flat subway tile?

Dear Alisha - at first I thought; of good a lot of info from the post. But it is all too confusing.

Please send photos of open floor plan - you said the home is super small and is an open floor plan. So we really really need to see what is conjoining and what is existing.

I like the Bordeaux Dream. I wouldn't go with a prodominently brown counter top with your cabinet color.

I looked at a billion slabs of granite & concluded that all of it was too patterned for me & I chose Caesarstone

Oh my gosh, the that huge slab in the first picture is sooo gorgeous. The rest are meh or too small to really get a feel for them. The ones with the small mottled designs (desert brown) look like Corian. I would avoid dark colors like the desert brown because it may start to look dated over the lighter colors. Just a thought.

Ok. I never get notices when there are replies! So sorry for the delay. So... now i have a whole new problem. Because i should have went with my gut and did the boreduax dream :(. I didnt because my husband wasnt in love and i wamted him to like it. So we ended up with kashmir gold cuz thats what he wanted, i kept saying i think were rushing lets just wait but no..., and to me after looking online it REALLY looks more kashmire White! Now the whole color scheme is off for the kitchen as the kashmir color looks do grey and BLUE! And guess what. He not in love with the color either. So i need help, major help! I do not like modern, im not a fan of this new grey fad thats going around. Its nice. But its not me. So, i showed u the pictures of what my inspiratuon kind of is. Traditional/tuscan.. very warm. Here is tbe kitchen now.
it looks really grey blue, and a bit modern... in color i guess. So im trying to see what s good backsplash color to tie it all together. I like yhe granite i think its really pretty i just think that the tan color of the floor and walls dont go with it very well. Or at least now what i wanted. I really want a nice stone backsplash that when the undercabinet lights are on it just shows the warmth of the stone, and i do not like the glass mosaic tiles at all. And will try to stay away from the ceramic glazed or glass tiles if i can. Im opem to options but want to keep it rustic/tuscan/traditional and warm. As possible visualizemason u can see my living room from the island picture my living room is like 13 x 15 kitchen and dining is 11 x 20

Hi Alisha, your counters by no means make your kitchen look "modern". I do feel that in order to help achieve the look your going for to need to add lots of warmth. Let's start with changing the light above your sink if you can't change that maybe switch out the glass globes for ones that have a yellow, gold, or bronze hue and make sure your bulbs are a soft white which also gives the room a warm glow. Next add some pendants over the island either two small ones or one medium sized one. For the backsplash look at limestone or travertine and to add a little dimension you could paint the island a different color cream or black. Hope this helps!! Alisha- good job in finding the compromise. Granite is really pretty.

Pictures don't always tell the "real" story, so tell me- is your paint, now, too yellow in tone? Appears that way to me, but it could just be my computer. If it is, don't hurt. Paint is the easiest, cheapest thing to fix, if needed.

Alisha, did you see and pick out your actual slab of kashmir gold? Or did you order from a small sample? Do your counters look like what you saw?

I think it looks nice! I just chose my counter and backsplash and am so nervous!! I have similar cabinets

I think we need to get the LIGHTING installed before making a $10K change in counters!!! So far, the colouring isn't too bad. As far as I can tell, there isn't a huge clash with the flooring (it is one of the criteria you can use to assess whether or not it will *work). But your lighting is NOT installed. So things could change. We can MAKE them change by choosing the right "temperature" of the bulbs in your lighting.

And by adding a warm coloured backsplash can cast a bit of warm yellow onto the slab that can change the colouring a little bit. I will guess this slab changes colour with different times of the day - kinda like a chameleon. That's a GOOD thing. It means we can get this leopard to change it's spots by changing the lighting (by that I mean bulbs).

I would have the lighting finished up to see how you feel. Make sure you view the counter throughout the 5 different light levels in the day. Do this before the backsplash is installed. If you decide to change out the slab, you will ruin the backsplash...so you might as well hold off on that install for a day or two while you assess the LIGHTING and the SLAB.

Again...lighting will be KEY to how this slab works in your space. Get it in and see how you feel. If it doesn't feel right, then swallow the several thousand it will cost to get a new stone and change it before you get the back splash in place.

Oh man! I need to figure out how to get these replies! I cant change anything other than the paint color and getting a backsplash. I dont wanna change my light fixtures i just bought those to go with the kitchen. I just have a semi flushmount that needs to be installed over the island that matches the sconce and dining light. I DO need to change the bulbs big time! As my under cabinet lights and stove light are the warm white. And when we bought our can light bulbs theh said warm white but are the daylight color. I found a backsplash called grecian white from homedepot that looks good. But its getting farther away from the color scheme/look i was going for. My paint color is very tan gold. My dad is a painter and is trying to help me find a color to tie it all together.
