Calling springwood, ordered Haas Halo today , from Avant Gardens 1gal for $43 with shipping.. how is yours doing .

I got three from Klehm's Song Sparrow nursery for $75... we'll see how they do. They're replacing Nikko Blue Hydrangea planted by a previous owner, so at this point anything is an improvement.

I have one (there is a pic on my Instagram but I don’t know how to move it here) and it is wonderful. It really is drought tolerant and pretty. Looked great last year and I can’t wait to see what he looks like this year-fast grower!

The Golden State Warriors - Pro Basketball Team! Talk about loud crowds. Were once called the San Francisco Warriors and now Golden State. We were season ticket holders for more than 20 years - way back in the days when they were pretty terrible - but we were passionate and loved them all. We were friends with the owners, management and some players. But, with only 3000 - 4000 fans at a game is was hard not to be noticed! Now they are champs and we watch and cheer on tv.

Thanks hyed! We were season ticket holders when there would be 1500 - 2000 fans in the stadium! The owner of the team would walk around and shake everyone's hand who showed up! Yep - a few years ago. We suffered through 19 years of 'almost winning' games. So many games and so many losses! lol And now they are the champs and people are talking dynasty! They were really fun to watch in the playoffs.

Halo looks great. Will be fun to see the blossom when it opens fully.

The difference in numbers of fans was after a correction by my husband! lol Except when we play Boston, then there would be more Boston fans than Warrior's. Of course we all wore colors so it was easy to identify the fans team.

So this thread is mostly 5 years old, with several of you having bought one back then. I'd love to hear updates. I ask as an experienced gardening friend of mine says it is her favourite hydrangea. But it is a bit hard to source.

Thanks for that HU. How is it faring this season? How large is it currently and what sun conditions does it experience?

Mine gets 2-3 hours of sun at the most and very little water. Such a wonderful plant

That I don’t know since it’s in a ton of shade here but it gets missed by the sprinkler so it is by far thr most drought tolerant hydrangea I have

I was visiting a friend who has had a HH in her garden for 3 seasons. She said it was quite small when she planted it...between several pine trees. She never waters it.

We had significant drought last year snd Haas Halo performed very well with minimal supplemetal water.

IMO, if you have room, it is a great hydrangea.

I've got to stop reading this thread because really, the last thing I need is another white hydrangea! I have seven hydrangeas, and five of them are white lol! But this one is very tempting. I especially like the part about being drought tolerant and doing well in lots of shade. And it's just beautiful too.

A bit off topic, but rouge, since your other thread it's been bugging me what it was you planted along that fence a few years back, which I asked about on that other thread. Now seeing this picture, I wonder if it was a rodgersia? Do I see one back there, and was this perhaps divided and moved here? Sorry if I'm pestering about this, but every time I open your other thread (and now this one lol) I'm wondering what it was you planted and if it ever made it or not.....

Hey Dee not a pester at all! I appreciate your interest in my conundrum :).

I have had a few stand alone plants in that corner over the years. The one that lasted the longest was a "Lucy" hibiscus standard. After there have been (at least?) two Japanese Maples :(.

@diggerdee zone 6 CT, do you have room for another white hydrangea such as HH? If so you gotta do it!

And I have to add, I was walking through the yard this morning, thinking how the blooms on my White Dome hydrangea got fried in the heat, but the other FOUR white hydrangeas were still looking good... and the thought crossed my mind, "hmm, maybe I CAN squeeze in another white hydrangea...."

Thanks to you, Rouge, I sought this hydrangea out. Not easy to find but I am thrilled to say there is a nursery in Brantford holding a Haas Halo for me until I can get there in a couple of weeks. Apparently quite a few people have requested it!

Yes, that's correct! I used to live in that area and still see my eye doctor in Brantford. I had inquired about this shrub in early spring and was told they couldn't source it this year. But some time later I got an email telling me that they had managed to source some plugs and that the shrubs would be ready mid July. Once they were ready I got yet another email to let me know, and ultimately they offered to hold one for me until I was there for my optometrist appointment. Talk about service!!

I placed an order earlier in the Spring for a HH with "Walters" and was told later that they couldn't bring them in 😡.

Well that's unfortunate. I was pretty impressed with them, but I guess they dropped the ball in your case..

Did I already mention that I got 3 HH from "Walters" 3 or 4 years back. (I kept 2 and gave one to someone else). I honestly have no room for another....it just bugs me that they didn't follow up with me. Its not like they knew I had no room :).

(When you go there can you ask where they got the plugs from ie who the specific grower is?)

But I only know for sure two of them. I have a White Dome (least favorite bloom but I adore this shrub for the pollinators (the shrub is literally buzzing with life, it's amazing!) the quick growth, and the length of time the blooms (usually) last) . I also have a Bombshell.

The others are MAYBE a Limelight, I THINK a Quickfire, and a third I just can't ID. All three were gotten at swaps and I once knew what they were but never labeled them well.

I have a shady patch that I'd like to make more garden-like and throw in some hostas and hydrangeas, so there IS some room for another white hydrangea....

@diggerdee zone 6 CT, I have a mass of three different white hydrangeas whuch was an odd design choice, but one is a ’Munchkin’ Oakleaf Hydrangea, another is Wee White which I’m not fond of but can’t be bothered to remove, abd the 3rd is Haas Halo. I have never seen as many pollinators on a hydrangea as Haas Halo gets. It is exceptional.

@Markay MD-Zone 7B I did a short video clip this morning showing so many busy bees on our Haas Halo. Forget just hydrangeas, this HH is one of the best bee attractors of any plant.

It is right up there with Mountain mint in my garden in terms of numbers and varieties of pollinators.

rouge, I did a short video of my White Dome too! I just had to show anyone who is interested (which isn't really a lot of people lol - most of them, their eyes just glaze over) but it's so amazing because the longer you stand there, the more pollinators you realize are there. I didn't think we could post videos here but I just looked down the page and see a video attachment button. Maybe I'll dig up my video and post. At least here I can't see anyone's eyes glaze over haha!

Markay I have three white hydrangeas together too, but mine weren't a design choice lol. They were an oh-my-God-I-simply-MUST-get-this-hydrangea-in-the-ground-NOW-because-its-been-in-this-little-pot-for-five-years-and-its-dying-and-where-can-I-plop-it-"for-now"?

Lol rouge, you know me. I am nothing if not a procrastinator. When I finally do make a decision, it still takes me awhile to actually put it into action!

Although, actually, as usual, time is my nemesis. I don't have time to go shopping locally (which nowadays isn't all that local, sadly) so I do most of my plant buying on line. Can't do that in summer so it has to wait till fall.

Maybe that will give me some time to actually PLAN a good place to plant lol. Perhaps the delay will mean no plopping for Haas Halo!
