I have taken over gardening at a neighbors house and need some advice. They want their citrus tree pruned, so its not covering the windows. I believe it is a kumquat. It looks like the previous gardeners were shearing it to a shape. How should I go about fixing it. I would like to do selective pruning to get it down in size. I know citrus don't like to be opened up, they prefer to be a closed canopy. Will it be able to put out new growth. They'll have to understand that it will look bare and probably wont bare fruit the following season.
