aphids are tricky devils. They bare their young live OR lay eggs. They can change sexes too. I've never seen them on roots but nothing would surprise me.

My hoyas are mostly outside and aphids is not one of my problems...usually.

Now, whenever I see a fungus gnat I'm going to think it's a root aphid. (as if I'm not paranoid enough lol)

Monica, you could have root mealy bugs. Even worst! From now on as much as I hate to use chemicals, all of mine are going to be fed systemic right before I bring them in for the winter..And, as soon as I can hang them all outside, another dose..I am tired of wondering on what's going on under the soil line...By the way, hello)

None here NOW, although I have *JUST* recovered from the worst, most evil pesties on the planet, on my big citrus in the garage. Spider. Mites. Thank goodness, it only affected that one plant, as all the others are in the plant room. The citrus in question is too big/heavy to bring indoors.

No pests right now although, I still need to confirm I got rid of all thrips. Geez, I never realized how bad they are. I think way worse than mealies.

i only ever heard of root mealies not root aphids and thought I'd see if anyone here had experience with them.

What damage to aphids do? I see them all the time but they just seem to hangout and maybe damage a new leaf or two.
