Why not just do the bottom white too, u already have the dark island n u also have a black countertop.

And IMO painting cabinets isn't really a no no if that is what u want, u should first please yourself n not worry about what others think. It'll look great when u are done, try not to doubt ur self because u only drive yourself crazy. Lol. Good luck. :)
