I think uppers look great. Paint the bottom some darker color you like and you are set.

You could definitely try painting the bottom cabinets white. It might look a little like this kitchen design of ours here:

Since your counter tops are dark, your fridge white I'd paint the lowers white and keep your island black. Out of curiosity, any reason why you painted the uppers without a plan in place for the lowers?

I knew I wanted all cabinets painted. It's just that when I finished with uppers I didn't know if I should continue with the white or pick up the black that's on island. So I came to the Houzzers who have excellent taste and advice to reassure me!
