Basjoo is your go to for planting in ground. No maintenance (winter protection) You could try orinoco but most likely not get fruit for a while in zone 8 plus the taste is not too good. Any other edible variety you will have to bring inside over the winter.

0 degrees Celsius ? Musa Basjoos ,once established will do best. They fruit but inedible.

Planted my basjoo corm in June last year. I'm in zone 5 and the greenhouse must be around zone 9ish. This is what it looks like beginning of Feb with no protection. In zone 8 you'll loose the leaves to frost and might have to bubble wrap the stem. very easy and fun to grow!

I think his zone is close to mine. After a couple bad winters in the single digits I pretty much leave mine alone now other than topping them off after the first frost hits them. The two single digit winters is the only time it knocked them all down to the ground/corm. In my zone, Basjoo's are the right choice if you want instance 6-10 foot high plants ,with full leaves in Feburary or March. My others are mid summer ,give or take,before they start filling out and looking good.

If possible esplant a musa orinoco and bring indoor ?and replant in spring?resist this variety?
