I overwinter mine in NJ under snow and ice, yours should be able to survive in San Antonio.

Do I understand correctly that the center spear pulled?

I would not worry at this point. As long as most of the foliage is still green and healthy, new spears should recuperate from whatever funk it was in.

Thanks. I started noticing more winter damage when it got into the 80's here and i checked on them. They look healthy as can be. So its weird that my most healthy palm trees had the spear pull. My pindo palms look great with no problems. Plenty of palms grow around here so i dont understand why my most hardy fastest growing palms were affected. I poured peroxide down the center today so hopefully its all good!.

Idk if anyone gets on here anymore but good news is one of my windmill palms survived the pull spear and is growing 2 new fronds already. My other two larger windmills are showing no progress.

My date palm just had spear pull today. That is 5 palms now. My pindo and med. Palm are doing great.

I just read you situation and I'm having the same issue. My Windmill palms look lush and green but had spear pull. I noticed that you said you put peroxide inside of them, why? Does it help? I will be so upset if I lose them.

I have no idea why they had spear pull especially here in san antonio and i dont know why peroxide works, it was suggested to me and so i tried it. I have seen new growth in every palm that had spear pull. I would add peroxide right away if i were you. Good luck.

For many small palms- the emerging spear or leaf is the most vulnerable to cold damage and the place where cold damage will show when temps warm up and growing resumes. They will push out new, healthy leaves.

I don't see where there was any damage, am I the only one who can't see it?
