Japanese maple problem??

Hello,

i have a 6 year old bloodgood and noticed this on the trunk today. I live in Ottawa Ontario. I am hoping it's not sick. Any comments? I'm worried about the lighter sections. There was some leaves that dried up early last fall. Could it be cold damage? Or doomed?

Already explained in your other post - black portion on trunk and stems is often a sign a bacterial blight. But it is too early to confirm. Repost when the tree leafs out.
