kitchen island

my kitchen is white with gray cabinets, gray floor, a dark granite countertop for counters and on island. I repainted my cabinets to make them fresher and now that I'm up to the island what color should I paint it? would a slate charcoal be too dark?

Nice job on the cabinets! Gray would look very nice. You could even lean into a more blue-gray or green-gray for a little added color

    Thank you.

you don't have to paint it. looks fine as is. it's small so it won't have a big impact.

does the trash can always reside there?

thanks for commenting. actually I bought the house and doing renovations. this is how they had the kitchen. I'm thinking of putting a stool there, cuz think trash cans shouldn't be seen. any ideas on what type of stool to put there? or do u have a different idea?

stool to sit or for little ones to help work? I can't really see from the pic. is there a place to sit in front too?

    nice paint job you did.

I agree with Beth to leave the island as is. I think you can introduce some color with choosing the right rug in front of the sink. Looks like a runner may work in that area?

What about stone, I have seen that before and it looks nice.

willy, stone for what?? what r u talking about?

no, I'm actually changing the backsplash to iridescent white, gray titles. so room will be very light, that's why thought to go dark on the island. thinking of just putting a bar type stool.cuz don't want to leave it empty

maybe just a simple, no back stool, if you want. do the backsplash first then take another shot when it's done.

what paint did you use on the cabinets?

It might be more than you want to tackle, but I would remove the 80s built in light. It doesn't do your changes any good. Very nice job so far though. I wouldn't change base cabs on island either. Looking forward to seeing backsplash. Nice work.

thank you Flo. this is the sample of the backsplash

those are nice. will look good w/the stainless items.

good idea to rid the ceiling of that light. that way you could do a nice pendant light over the island

Beth, I had a stainer guy do the cabinets. with spray. ( sorry don't know the color, was going for the look, and he choose what worked)after he sprayed it white he painted a light gray over it.

yes, I know lighting old. any idea What the cost would be to change?

nice shay. I really think the island should stay as is. IF you want a change, then remove the black top, replace with a nice walnut butcher block and then paint the cabinet a deep charcoal/black. like this color

or here's how it would look as is in white

then have some cute pendants over it. looks good! you could also do a longer overhang on the front side if you want more seating.

thanks Beth, for your advice. I realy like the dark counter tops, like the contrast. don't really care for the natural wood.

Love the tile for the backsplash. To remove, sheetrock, fix junction box so a pendant can hang over island, etc. probably $500-600 then a new fixture around $250-400 depending on what you select. Roughly that amount. Just depends on where you are and if you could carefully remove it yourselves or not. Might need a couple hundred dollars of new sheetrock, mud, taping, etc. to fix the ceiling as a ceiling. So figure around $1,000-2,000 if you are careful.
