Yes, we do but that's okay. Everyone needs to learn and sometimes talking to growers is the best way.

Your plant looks okay and I would leave it alone and enjoy the blooms. The roots that are changing color are the roots exposed to the dry air. The roots inside the jar are nice and green. If you can increase humidity around the plant it would be helpful.

In warmer weather you can repot the phal in a mix of orchid bark and sphagnum moss. Make sure the pot is only a bit bigger than it is in now. Move it to a bright window or put it outside in a shady area for the summer. Fertilize lightly over summer as the plant will grow new leaves and should begin to spike again in the Fall for flowers over next winter.

The moss looks very wet. It should dry out in between watering (every 10-14 days).

What is a flower power?

Flower Power is the light blue thing I have in its pot. It measures light, temp, moisture, fertilizer, etc. You use an app that reminds you to water, tells you if it needs something, etc. It also keeps a log of all those things over a period of time. Super handy for someone like me.

Your tool may be calibrated for something other than orchids. Orchids are air plants and have much different demands than non orchids. And to make more difficult, different orchids have different demands. Just a guess but I think I would not depend on accurate help for your orchid. Unless you have the ability to set the parameters... I do like the concept.

Yes, you can choose which species your plant is for exact requirements. It covers all plants indoor and out. You just choose which setting you want. You can also upload a photo of your plant for identification. Its pretty neat. I also take it outside sometimes just to check other plants.

To my eye, her plant looks healthy. Nice green roots.

When you repot, you can order a plastic orchid pot that also has slits in the sides. I think holes in the bottom only aren't so great long-term.

The plant looks really healthy, though pretty wet in the photo (which is probably because you just watered it, so maybe irrelevant) ... but as others have mentioned, just let it dry really well before you water again. That kind of plastic pot is pretty thin ... you may be able to put some more holes in the sides if you'd like to give it a little more air in there.

My only other concern is how tightly the moss is packed. It's insane how much of that the nurseries tend to pack in there! If you have any long tweezers, you can probably very gently pull a lot of it out, to get a little more air around the roots. When I do that, I usually don't have to repot until after the NEXT flowering cycle.

Dannie, yes I had just watered it :) I haven't watered since and letting it dry out a bit. I also will get some of the moss out today. Great advice! We went to the northwest flower & garden show yesterday and Wow! The Orchid Society was there with a fantastic display and of course lots of orchids for sale. I'm not letting myself get another one until I'm sure this one lives, but now I know who to contact if I need more hahaha! Thanks again for the help!
