Citrus cannot be shipped to all states. Where do you live?

You might consider a calamondin tree. The fruit taste like lemon when it is picked just as it starts turning color.

@Sammers510 : My zone is 8a. I did not realize that there is considerable winter care required. I used to live in CA and loved the lemon trees in that area. The variety that fits TX seems rare to be grown easily. I will check if there is a Mckenzie in my area. If I find one , I owe it to you. Thanks so much for the details.

@poncirusguy : I did find that at Costco yesterday.... they had a tag and was marked as Pink lemon.... is that what it is ?

pink lemonade is something else. The calamondin is its correct name. The Harvey lemon is probably your best bet. Why would you want a lemon tree. Why not grow something you can't buy fruit from. New Zealand Lemonade tree or perhaps a Meiwa kumquat. It is much easier to grow small sized fruits at the outskirts of a trees growing zone than large fruits. This is why I am growing Meiwa and Fukushu kumquats. They are easy to grow in zone 6a with a little glass.

I totally see growing things you cant get in a grocery store, which is why I will be getting a calamondin this spring, but I also LOVE lemons like no ones business (they are my favorite citrus) and would love to have access to a large crop of them. I always want to make lemon based things to give as gifts but hate buying the lemons from the store. I feel like it takes some of the diy out of it. So I try to keep a balance of common and unusual fruits.

I love the smell of the citrus and grew up with one back in my country. Now that I have some space in the yard ... the idea of having a lemon tree gets me all excited: )

I can see wanting to grow them as well. I have 4 lemon trees(though one is pink) and I live in soCal. I just simply cannot get enough lemon. There is no such thing. They are all young trees but one meyer and it cannot produced enough to keep up with my family's demand. Such a shame to have to buy them.

Will do. One of the few reasons I like California is the ability to grow lots. I dislike much more about it. Good luck with your citrus!
