Gigi, this can be a sign of fertilizer excess. Are you fertilizing still?

when this happens at the end of a leaf, I do not usually become too alarmed. I keep an eye on it for any progression. May just lose it's leaves as a sign of dormancy and restart new growth later on.

Water retention in the soil is another thought. Although it may be a mix specific to adeniums, you need to make sure it dries back fairly quickly and not knowing anything about the Ecogrow product. It is difficult to comment.

Thanks Rick, Yes I was still fertilizing (tiny bit) will stop that! Mix is Coconut husk, coco peat, pumice, vermiculite,
agricultural lime, trace minerals, and a small amount of slow release organic
nutrients. It seems like it is drying out pretty quickly to me and I am only watering when it is dry (sticking finger in). Can you give me some guidance on how to gage what is quick enough - or how to test.

So much of the soil type we use can be related to where we reside. Some people living in warm/hot climates and plants remain outdoors all year long can get away with Coconut coir/peat in the mix. For myself with my plants outside only from April - Sept. I do not use Coconut Coir unless for seedlings.

With a fine additive such as Coconut coir mixed with Cocnut husks, pumice and your others listed. The finer particles will eventually be washed down to the bottom of the pot, creating a perched water area ( where water will stay and remain wet. Can eventually stop water draining freely.

With a free draining mix similar to what you are using without the Coconut coir, the water when pored in should run out the bottom quite quickly. Be careful to experiment right now with this to try (heavy watering) as it may stay too wet, too long for this time of year.

I tend to stay away from using Vermiculite and use coarse Perlite if I do use.

What you could do is let your mix you have bought dry back and sift it through a coarse mesh sifter to remove the fine particles, then add some Coarse Perlite or Grit (usually sold at feed stores for chicken scratch).

Just to clarify, I am straining to remove the coir and peat and then adding the grit....?

That is what I would do for my plants. I only use Coconut coir for seedlings.
