Macrorrhiza mush. What did I do wrong?

I've been getting more and more into Alocasia and Colocasia for the past few years and I'm now up to 20 or so varieties. I've never had a problem overwintering my plants before but this year I seem to be having an issue. Some stay in pots, some I keep awake through the winter and I just checked on all my loose tubers.. Cannas are fine, esculenta is fine, serendipity is fine, but my huge Borneo Giant tubers (3 of them) and about a dozen or so Macrorrhiza are shot. I pulled them out of the ground after first frost and dried them all the same way I always do and packed them in peat. I know the Borneo Giant is a variant of Macrorrhiza but not really sure why my issues seem to be limited to these. Any ideas?
